What Podcasts Do You Listen To?

What podcasts do you listen to? Please provide a brief summary.

Joe Rogan - Interviews all types of people: Talks a lot about comedy, health & nutrition, UFC, hunting

Hardcore History - Really knowledgeable and amusing guy talks about history.

Dan Patrick Show - Interviews with all types of people, but mostly involved in athletics

The Nerdist - Interviews with people mostly in stand-up, tech, movies, shows

Best Response

In Our Time - BBC Radio show also distributed as a podcast. Wide variety of topics, generally academic, historic or high concept, with very informed guests and a good host.

Hardcore History - "I'm not a historian, I'm a fan of history" - great stuff and captures the visceral, emotional and empathetic elements of history that more usual dry academia don't.

Sinica - Beijing-based podcast by Westerners focused on contemporary Chinese issues, particularly political issues. Good hosts, good, informed guests, intelligent commentary with occasional anti-China rants that I enjoy.

On the Media - commentary on US media from NPR show.

Masters in Business - good interviews with big names in finance. Leans towards asset management topics, but not exclusively.

New Yorker Out Loud - stuff from the New Yorker.

The Harsh Couch - commentary on Australian and international affairs, largely from an Australian perspective.

Roderick on the Line - casual discussion from two >40 guys. Mixture of humourous discussion and intelligent ranting.

Those are my regulars.

I also listen to a lot of lecture series (The Teaching Company) and non-fiction audiobooks. I've got dogs, so have to spend a lot of time walking them. That's more productive if I'm listening to something informative.

Also, listening to something is easier than reading it.

Those who can, do. Those who can't, post threads about how to do it on WSO.

Marketplace Morning Report - business news Marketplace Tech - tech business news BBC Business Daily - daily features on the business world, about 17 mins. long Stacking Benjamins - personal finance, longer podcasts of 60+ mins. Bigger Pockets - real estate investing Car Talk - two guys answer car problem (and life) questions from listeners that call in, pretty funny podcast Stuff You Should Know - learn how: karate works, socialism works, currency works, TV ratings, stem cells, numbers station works, etc.

I'm too drunk to taste this chicken -Late great Col. Sanders

One of the guys from Car Talk died a couple days ago. Well that is if the pod cast is done by the same guys that do Car Talk on one of the public broadcasting stations.

They have been retired for a couple years and NPR has been running reruns ever since. They did the show for 35 years so there is plenty of material.

This to all my hatin' folks seeing me getting guac right now..

hardcore history and Dan Carlin;s other podcast, common sense - only podcasts I've ever paid for (the older HC histories)

This American Life

Bill Simmons

I don't really like Joe Rogan - he seems kinda pretentious and like his world-view is the only right way of doing anything.

---Brainstuff: 3 min or so segments on different topics folks might want to know more about (why do limbs fall asleep?, how does safety glass work?, etc) ---Dave Ramsey Show: Tells how to not be an idiot with your finances / financial life via call-ins from folks that are currently being idiots and need advice. Entertaining, but pretty basic, and I agree w/ maybe 80% of it. ---NPR's Business Story of the Day: Short business related current event stories ---NPR's Planet Money: Way interesting...maybe 20-30 minute podcasts about the economy, story-style. Like "How to Steal a Million Barrels of Oil", "What Two Pasta Factories tell us about the Italian Economy", and "Why is the Milk in the Back of the Store?". ---Startups for the Rest of Us ---Stuff You Should Know: Topics vary greatly, like "How Extinction Works", "How the Great Train Robbery Worked", "How Police Interrogation Works".

1 choice of this list would be Planet Money IMO.

Just updated my Podcast list before you posted and saw the "How to Steal A Million Barrels of Oil"! Sounds interesting. Agree that Dave Ramsey is a good one. I don't agree with everything that he pushes, but he has some great material.

"Decide what to be and go be it." - The Avett Brothers

-- Intelligence Squared: Debates held between two teams of two experts on a topic in the news - Common Core, Do Millenials Stand a Chance, Is the Lecture Hall Obsolete? Good insight from opposing perspectives.

-- Welcome to Night Vale: This is a fun one, surrealist/dry humor but personally I think it's very funny. Revolves around a town where basically every conspiracy theory is true and lots of strange things happen. Comes out bi-monthly and they do lots of live shows.

I have a ton because I listen to podcasts during the communte and a bunch while I work.

Serial - Week by week re-examination of a Baltimore murder case. Current favorite. Solid Verbal - Best college football podcast. Orvis Fly Fishing Podcast BS Report - Everyone knows what this is Retronauts - Talk about old school video games I grew up playing (for my inner nerd). Star Talk - Neil Degrasse Tyson A few Notre Dame football specific podcasts

Thaks for the other suggestions, excited to try out Stuff You Should Know and Planet Money.

A few Notre Dame football specific podcasts

There are 'a few' ND football specific podcasts? Wow. Also, disgusting.

One is a podcast given by Brian Kelly solely devoted to bitching and complaining about the last play and penalty during the FSU vs. ND game last month. It has hours and hours of content.

"Decide what to be and go be it." - The Avett Brothers

I stream Jim Rome's radio show when I have the chance, sadly you have to pay to be able to hear it on demand as a podcast though. That dude is a jerk, but hilarious, truly an underrated comedy personality.

In addition to those already listed...

Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me! - NPR's weekly news quiz. Usually entertaining but has a somewhat liberal bias

Definitely Masters in Business. My two favorite episodes are with Bobby Flay and Leon Cooperman.

Fareed Zakaria's weekly podcast has been my main thing for years. Bloomberg Radio is not bad, but there's a lot of the intra-day babble that goes on with any daily broadcast. 90% of the words they speak are meaningless.

in it 2 win it

I try and catch the WSJ "What's News" one every morning. It's not great. 80% of it is an ad for Cellular something with a really annoying woman's voice, and it's just a few minutes long. I wish WSJ This Morning was put out earlier than 8:15 am :/

Browse around on iTunes and see what you like. You never know what you might come across. The BBC is usually pretty solid.

What are you looking for? That's the question. News, political news, financial news, comedic news, alternative news, comedy, video game news. There are podcasts for just about anything you can imagine. So narrow it down a bit.
