Shaved Head
Looking through all the threads on this topic, it appears that there are not many serious answers to this question, so I'll ask it here. What are your opinions on a student completely shaving his head when applying for SA/FTA positions? I normally keep long hair, but recently cut it short a few months ago. Unfortunately, my hair is visibly thinning, and it's quite odd to see that happening to someone my age, so I decided to just go fully bald and shave it off, haha. I actually like the way it looks! I think I would actually like to keep this look.
That being said, I know that the banking space is fairly conservative, so I'm not sure about what others would think of such a young person sporting a bald/shaved head. What do you guys think? I certainly have time to grow it out until the next recruiting season. My choices are basically keep it at a respectable length, but be visibility thin in the front, or just go bald. I'm not one to stress too much about my vanity (which is probably why I just took the razor to my head out of no where, lol), but I know that image does mean a lot in this wonderful world of ours.
Thanks for the input!
Have you thought about buzzing it down short, but not going Mr. Clean?
Thanks for the reply. That may indeed be a better way to go. Perhaps I should just buzz it short with a #1 or #2.
Nothing looks worse then guys trying to retain the false belief that their hair is not thinning. Shaving your head makes you look more honest.
Good to know. Yeah, I don't want to be the guy trying to hold onto something he's about to lose. Might as well own it! It's weird, I usually have pretty long hair, but I am liking this shaved look, haha. I suppose I am just fortunate in that I don't have any bumps or indents in my head. Also, perhaps copecre is right, and I should just do a short buzz and not go all the way with the blade. Perhaps it would be more professional that way?
Agreed. I started thinning in high school after rocking long hair (almost shoulder length), went no guard until I was 24, super easy, no maintenance, then I got more thin but no gray so it looked like this weird patchy black fuzzy thing. Then I went straight bald, great decision. Helps me seem older (which helps my business), ladies love it, and again, easy maintenance.
Just make sure you're liberal with sunscreen when golfing, running, on the beach, whatever. There are few things in life more uncomfortable than having a sunburned scalp.
Yeah, I was close to shoulder length as well. Perhaps instead of the blade I can just do it without a guard (would certainly save me more time, but a somewhat less close of a cut), or do what copecre mentioned, and take it off with a close guard to try to be a little more professional. You mentioned that you used no guard at a young age, and I suppose you didn't have any "lack-of-professionalism" issues? Perhaps that would be the best thing to do. If anything, it would make haircuts really low maintenance!
Haha, I could only imagine how bad a sunburned scalp would be!
My boy has a shaved head, had an interview with a bulge bracket dealer. They asked him to value a shampoo brand. He still got the offer after that
Haha, that's pretty awesome!
have you considered the franciscan monk cut? (srs)
In order to show my devotion to banking and my renunciation of desire and sin? Just might work! LOL
Shaved head for an interview (Originally Posted: 02/10/2014)
Wondering if people think it looks unprofessional to go for an interview for a major bank with a really close buzz cut, 1s all around. I'm tan and look weird with hair any longer than that, think vin diesel from boiler room.
I have my hair cut to number 2 up top, number 1 everywhere else. No one calls me unprofessional (at least not to my face).
Edit: And my boss is at least number 2 all over, if not 1.
Wow, that is short...sometimes in the summer I do a number 4 up top and I end up feeling bald the first few days. Honestly hair is like a head suit, I've moved more towards the scissor trim camp.
If someone gives you a hard time about being bald, peace the fuck out of the interview.
I had a completely shaved head for a superday. Started a pretty hilarious conversation and comparision of stupid stories.
To shave or not to shave... (Originally Posted: 12/17/2010)
So in my early 20's my hair line is receding like Germans on the western front after dday. I've always kept it short but I think I'm going to bite the bullet and go Paulson bald. No one in my office has a chrome dome and I only remember meeting one guy that did so I'm hoping that my premature hairlessness won't make me look like a neo-nazi but I wanted the input of some of you kids to see how it would be received. Guy in his early 20's with no hair seems like it would raise eyebrows (or make the ladies thing I was a cancer survivor so maybe that's one for the 'pro' column). Thoughts?
Depends on the shape of your head to be honest. Some people look good some don't. The absolute worst thing you can do is try a combover or some way of hiding it. Just own it and you should be fine. Fuck the haters.
Maybe try hair transplantation? I don't see why not? I think it's between 4 and 5k. A few grand is certainly worth a head full of hair.
Plugs look like shit. Everyone can tell you have them and it's admitting a weakness. Screw that.
u could b jeff macee jr !
Can you see yourself being completely bald? Have you ever been completely bald? Some people can pull of the bald look, others can't...it really depends on the shape of your head. Maybe get someone to photo shop your head bald?
Personally, i know I'll look terrible without hair...i rather a semi receding hairline than a completely bald look.
Im going to do it and post a picture afterwards...maybe by tomorrow...going out to get trashed now so the picture could be funny
Do a before picture also please. hah.
Yea, let's see a before and after.
It's true. Short and half-bald is still better than combing. And if it suits you, it's going to be hot. Especially if you are young and into sports.
And it will def teach you to smile more honestly to make up for the Nazi comparison.s
Just keep it really short. Bald is a PITA to maintain.
Here's a lady's perspective: Bald >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> desperately hanging on to receding hair. It's much better to pull off bald with confidence, as in "I don't give a fuck, I'm bald and you will like it." If you have a handsome face, it will help, too. Also, no goatee or stupid shit like that with it, or you'll look like that ugly dude from the Matrix. Some scruff is fine, but nothing excessive.
Most aggressive women I've come across in a while ....
Don't do it if you're fat, Happy. I'm a pretty husky guy and I lost a bet once and my buddy's 10-year old kid got to shave my head bald. It looked like shit. Fat guys should not do bald.
i am fat and also lost a bet....i looked like a damm gummy bear... and being hisp i was called "shitty bear"
Rest assured I have a dashing face and am not fat...I am drinking bourbon like its water at the moment so no doubt it will happen
Shave your head, tan every 12 hours, pierce both ears, and take up Muay Thai. You will be a badass with style.
If you shave the head you can't have big ol' bushy eyebrows. They'll look like fuzzy caterpillars.
I did it...I look like a skinhead and a small child started crying today at the gym when I waved at him...mission accomplished
Come on guys. That's worthy of a few bananas
Legend.
Damn, I'm too late, sorry happy. What you should have done is get a #1 buzzed all around, that way you own and acknowledge the hairline, but don't look like a light-source.
This is it right here. Don't go bald as in razor bald, just do a no guard on the clippers or a 1. I have a ton of friends that have done both and it takes a certain person to pull off bald. Also, for the sake of ease, as Anthony pointed out, just go with a 1 and you can do it yourself, save some money and lots of time (and pain).
Lets see some pics man!!
Regards
what happened to the before and after pics?!
I think the best strategy is to start stuff like transplants, Rogaine etc. as soon as you see any signs of thinning. If you waited until after it's obvious you're balding (or obvious you're going grey etc.), then everybody knows that 1) You tried to fix it using such measures 2) It's something that makes you insecure enough to resort to (1).
I just entered my 20s, so it'll be some time before I get to this stage, but I'm sorta dreading it...

Didn't you see that big front page article in the WSJ a couple months back about how "Bald Is Powerful"? Shave it. You better be able to pull off a hat too
Shave Your Head To Get That Promotion (Originally Posted: 10/20/2012)
There's been a lot of posts about how certain physical traits can help (or hurt) your career. I even posted about how wearing certain colors can change how people perceive you. But now, "research" is suggesting that bald men are more likely to get raises and promotions. A recent study by Wharton and article by WSJ suggests that bald men are perceived to be more "mature" and "wiser".
My dad has worn a mustache for as long as I could remember, and I recall asking him as an adolescent, why he'd never shave the dam thing (and still doesn't). He told me it was supposed to make him look more mature as he was starting to build his landscaping business (another reason to participate in Movember!). I found that to be extremely odd. He was my dad; he will always be older than time to me. But dad may be onto something here:
Not surprising, bald men are also perceived to be less attractive. And according to Eddie's post about how good looking men (and ugly women) get more interviews, this finding may seem contradictory. Obviously, this study isn't advocating that (young) men should forgo their youthful looks at the beginning of your career. But when you start to notice that your hairline is receding, try to look at the brighter side of things. You may be physically less attractive, but you'll also be making more money, which makes you exponentially more attractive anyways.
What do you think monkeys? Do you agree with this study? Are you balding? Are you embracing it? Do you notice anything different after you've shaved it?
brb shaving my head. will report back later.
the same is true for downstairs
I would wait until I'm at least 30 to do this. Quite frankly, I would think that something's wrong with you if you're 21-22 yrs right out of college and already bald.
