Shoes to go with a blue pinstripe suit
Trying to keep it under $200, interviewing at some mutual funds/BB firms for S&T and AM.
Looking at oxfords - are wingtips too much? No square toes, all brown of course... Any recommendations besides the usual park aves? Zappos would be preferable.
I go with burgundy/cordovan/whatever you want to call it cap-toe Cole Haans. Think I picked them up for like $135 or something. Very comfortable, hold up well, and I wear them with my navy and light gray suits.
Came in to say the exact same thing. Cole Haan cap-toe in some burgundy variation.
I like the Johnston & Murphy, Melton Cap Toe in Burgandy/Bordeaux
I'm assuming this is for an entry level analyst slot?
Solid colored suit - tailored and a pair of black Johnston and Murphy captoes and you're all set. Blue suit w/ pinstripes and brown shoes sounds like a bit much for an analyst interview - a little flashy for me. I'd save that for after you get the job.
I think brown shoes are fine for an interview as long as they are dark/burgundy. I wouldn't rock the tan Allen Edmonds wing tips to the interview, that's for sure.
But I second the thing about the pinstripe suit. Unless it is very subtle. But a bold pinstripe might be a little flashy until you get the job
It is an analyst position and I understand on the pinstripe - it's a very subtle, thin black pinstripe, definitely not pimp-ish if you know what I mean.
Should I go for the matte or gloss finish on the cap-toes?

Have these, very solid shoe
Burgundy Allen Edmonds are the right choice
Some tassled loafers. If you are prepared to get rinsed wearing a pinstripe suit to an interview, may as well go full douchebag, don't half ass it!
There are many older men who will go to the grave believing that wearing brown shoes with a navy suit is morally wrong, when actually, it is wearing lighter brown shoes with a navy suit that is wrong. Your shoes should be at least as dark as your suit. If the shade of your brown shoes approaches black, you're in the clear. If they are tannish (i.e. the Allen Edmonds walnut calfskin), you should be banned from the executive washroom. There is nothing wrong with wearing black shoes with a navy suit, contrary to a widely held belief.
Go buy a used pair of A&E off Ebay. Quality shoes you will literally have for decades to come.Plus they come broken in for you already.
