I left after 3 months. I was at a boutique consulting firm and got recruited out by Deloitte. Salary went from 70K - 100K base, which is why I left. Boss didn't react well, made me a counter offer to get me to stay, but he could only go up to 80K.

I've told the story about the guy that left in 12 hours more than a few times on here and that record still hasn't been broken...just sayin

Monty, I've apologized for leaving many times but I just couldn't pass up that gig at Kroger...

Shortest time at a crap high school/ college job was 2 days at a clothing store my freshman year at college. The customers were all total hipsters who would ask the most obnoxious questions. Figured it wasn't worth the $9/ hour and the time not having fun. I don't really know how they reacted because I called in to quit, and never set foot back in the store.

Shortest time at a finance job was about 2 months at a PWM firm. I got the job through a family friend, and since he was doing it mostly as a favor, he didn't pay me too well. It was awful. I got the most bullshit of work known to man, especially when I had to call clients and listen to them complain about how they lost 1% last month. The bad part was that I know PWM for people with smaller accounts is pretty much bullshit. I just wanted to tell these people to get an etrade account and save a lot in fees and commission. When I told them I actually got a real job, they were all actually relieved, mostly because they knew I hated it there.

I've had three jobs since graduating in May of 2009, so I'm actually pretty skilled at quitting jobs.

1.5 days at Morgan Stanley. Got a job for a PWM guy in 2 penn plaza who made me cold call funeral homes... I made a few calls and just wanted to shoot myself rather than do it another day, so I just told him I cant do this anymore and left. Didnt ask for my 1.5 days salary or anything hehe..

Surprisingly I wasn't blacklisted by MS as I took another position there a few years later (that lasted a few months)

I made it 2.5 days working in railroad construction (summer after high school). I'm about 6'5" 230 lbs, decently strong and in good shape. The size of the three other guys doing what I was doing? ~ 6'4" 300+, 6'4" 300+, 6'8" 350. They weren't fat either. Have you ever seen those big, 20 lb sledgehammers? We used those. Well, I tried. It would take me about 10 swings and 1-3 minutes per nail. They'd do it in on 1 swing and spend about 5 seconds on each nail. It pretty much sounded like machine gun fire.

Moral of the story? Don't work on a railroad unless you're a freak of nature.

I worked for Northwestern Mutual for 1 day when I was desperately trying to get an internship my sophomore summer. They gave me a booklet and asked me to list 100+ people (family, friends, fof, etc...) that I could call and pitch life insurance. I didn't come back for day 2.

Instead, I started an in-home computer service company (i.e. Geeksquad) and made 10x more than anything I would have made at NM.

hahaha great stories,

monty-How did the BB react when you moved to another BB? I feel that you could be pissing off the wrong people.

Does anyone know anyone that was blackballed for situations like this?

How do you explain these really short stints? Is it an auto-ding for future interiews?

Sorry to grave grave-dig this thread, but I didn't feel like creating a new one.

Did you guys put these short, up to 3-month stints on ur resume? What's the protocol for working somewhere that is so short-term? Wouldn't it show on a background check, when they see u were paid there?

^ I definitely think you should put them on your resume. Not including them and then the employer finding out later could be a problem. It will also appear as if there is a big gap in your employment history.

I am just wondering how to explain these in a positive nature when interviewing. I most likely will be having to answer questions like this very soon. Any suggestions would be greatly helpful.

I started a job in auditing at a second tier firm. Man did it suck, handed in my notice after 2 months as I got a job at a BB. I left because it was AUDITING!! Man audit sucked!!

Work involved going out ot these crappy country towns in australia for days at a time, staying in crappy motels and auditing state government organisations. no1 audit sux, and anyway telling you they like it is a liar, or has serious mental problems, no 2 second rate firm, no 3 spending 3 to 5 days in a row at tiny country towns with nothing to do

Partner was not happy. They were short staffed, and I could actually speak fluent english... Anyway, best move I ever made

Had a friend who was top analyst in a top group and left for a HF about 9 months in-his new employer bought out his bonus AND gave him another (stub obviously) at year-end.

Guy joined as an associate from industry and lasted 4 weeks. That was in 2007. I myself stayed only 6 months at my last shop. But there were genuine reasons for me jumping ship so quickly. General rule - try to stay 2 years at a place. Resume integrity and all that.

I've had friends leave after a month or two. And have had some friends do a SA position, hate it, get the offer, start full-time, and then quit, even though they already knew they'd hate it going into the job.

I'm always shocked people who know they're going to hate it or think they're going to hate it even bother to go through the interview process (which in and of itself is a pain in the ass). I guess that's the kind of critical reasoning that college kids go through when making important life decisions like that...

Hi, Eric Stratton, rush chairman, damn glad to meet you.

12 hours...this buddy of my dad's started at a boutique with an analyst class of about 6 and the first day one of the guys was talking about how his girlfriend got a job in the midwest and that he really missed her etc. Anyway, long story short, the guy left that first day and never came back. A few weeks later, they found out he went out to whatever shithole she was working in and got a job as a retail bank branch manager or something
