Drop Class, Salvage GPA?
Currently have a 3.72 at a nontarget. In my CIS class I completely missed a homework assignment and made a 69 on my first exam somehow. I ran calculations, and I need A's across the board for the rest of the exams/homeworks to pull off a B. If I make a C, my GPA will drop to 3.62 overall (assuming I make A's in my other classes). Likewise, if i droo and make all A's ill have a 3.76 that i can round to 3.8. I have 13 hours left (graduate in May), so if I can't get my shit together by the drop date should I drop the class and take 16 hours next semester (3 upperdivision classes, 1 pe credit, CIS, elective) or take the GPA hit?
Pretty much, I dont want my resume shitcanned in the future because I can't pull a 3.7+ at state schools.
Drop the class.
Drop
Dee Rop.
ddddddddddddddrop.
quick drop.
DROP - cut your losses. If it even comes up (and it likely won't), refer to the fact that you had other life circumstances that needed your attention, or some other CYA story. Just make sure that you're prepared to do well if/when you retake it.
Should I drop class? (Originally Posted: 07/24/2012)
hey guys,
I currently have a 3.8 gpa at a nontarget (UF). I screwed up my first exam (didn't have much time to study cuz of internship/laziness) during summer so the highest grade I can get in the class is B. If I don't drop the class my GPA will drop to 3.699 but this class is one of my core upper level class. Should I drop it? I have 3 semester left and this will be my last drop till I graduate (2nd). I want to have the best gpa possible during fall for internship recruitment.
I know that I can ace the class because it's not difficult at all if I retake it but is it really worth it?
just drop it bra
drop.
I wish i dropped after I got killed in a single class. Dropped my GPA .3...
Is this a drop or a withdrawal?
thanks for the reply thus far guys! really appreciate the advice.
@penn, sorry shoulda made it more clear but it counts as a W on transcript.
UF? Ask the professor if you can do a macaroni painting extra credit project to bring your grade up.
Go dawgs
Did you say this will be the second W on your transcript? ... hmm I think it's not a definite withdraw in that case, if this is going to be your second one.
your school allows you to just drop courses in the middle of a session without any penalties?
@penn. yea this will be the 2nd W on my transcript and I will not be allowed to drop anymore in the next 2 semesters. I dropped another class earlier cuz I didnt want a B+....which was probably a dumb idea.
@pancakes. yea we are allowed 2 drops every 2 years..no "real" penalty besides a W and losing the money u paid for class
go gators.
Unless there are any cute girls - I'd drop it
easy decision. drop it.
Drop class or get a D instead? (Originally Posted: 05/15/2013)
I am right now doing a business undergrad and this year I'm on exchange which does not count towards my GPA. Yet, I need good grades as schools/employers will look at this year's transcript as well.
I took an unrelated programming course in which I am doing very poorly. I have the chance to drop it or keep it. If I keep it, the best grade I could get is a C, but much more likely a D or possibly F. If I drop it, my transcript would state that this course was dropped. How bad does it look for grad schools and employers to have this on my transcript? Would this still be better than having for example a D? ...considering that this class is completely out of my curriculum?
Thanks for any insights!
In my opinion: W > D > F
Unless you already have 2+ Ws on your transcript
drop
Seeing as though its an exchange should allow for some leniency as well. If it ever comes up with employers I'm sure it would be easy enough to spin it off as a language barrier (if applicable), exchange school not allocating services to help, misunderstanding of what the course was etc.
Drop. People look at your GPA. It is like the first thing any HR looks at for a student. I should have dropped some courses.... but just went for pass. In hindsight it hurt my GPA and overall my marketability to firms. GPA matters for like first five years(less and less as time goes) or so until you have something more substantial on your resume.
Can always say if employer asks why you dropped it that you were trying to expand your skill set and glad you took the course. Otherwise I would not have learned programming
This guy's on the money; drop the programming class. I wish I had someone tell me this sort of thing during my undergrad years.
drop
Pass/Fail if possible, or just drop
There is no harm in having a withdrawal on your transcript. People drop courses all the time and admissions committee members completely get it. Don't think twice.
Drop. :)
Drop.
Thank you for your responses. It now seems that I will not be able to drop the class so I'd like to ask another, slightly different question:
If I get a first class degree from my school in the UK (equivalent of ~ 3.7-4.0 GPA) but I have a 3.0 GPA for my year abroad (with As and Bs and one D in an unrelated subject) would this be a big deal?
Again, my year abroad does NOT count toward my GPA but grad schools will still look at these grades. IF I end up with a first class degree but with a D in an unrelated subject on my year abroad, are top business schools/other grad schools out of question?
Thanks a lot!
