Should I start to look for a PE internship after my offer??
I would like to get some good advice on my situation:
I received an offer from an Investment bank recently and now that I have signed and accepted it, I am wondering whether I should start looking for a PE internship during the time before my full time employment starts in 2017? My training will kick off in June and I have almost 5 months from now to find a PE internship and experience PE.
My reason is this: I would like to do a PE internship to see if I like it and whether or not I would like to exit there after my analyst years (all my previous internships are IB ones hence I didn't know if I will like PE more), I want to find out if I will like PE more or if it suits me better. If it doesn't, I will stay at my bank and make a living there in the future. If I decide that I like PE better, I will try move there while I am still an analyst. Without some related work experience, I will never know (I tried reading, but still.)
My concern is: will my bank find about my attempt to find PE internships (or after I find one and start to work there) and then rescind my offer? Or, is it worth my time to try to find one and work there for 3 months? And what's the difficulty of finding one in short period of time? Is it similar to the drill of finding an IB internship? (I busted my ass trying to landing those IB internships .. honestly I will prefer not to do it again). If I have to, I will have to try to find one in a month or so since now is almost Jan.
Could someone pls advise? Thanks!
help!!
It wouldn't necessarily hurt you. Plus most banks know their analyst programs are 2-3 years max. If anyone asks just say it was a paid gig and the money and experience was the reason you decided to take it
