Show the number of monkey turds thrown at you
Would enjoy seeing how many monkey turds that have been thrown at you next to your bananas. I had some turds thrown at me recently (totally uncalled for)and while they reduced my post count I could very well have deleted some of my threads and reduced it that way. So in the interest of seeing where all the turds are flying, maybe put the stat somewhere public profile or next to banana?
i second that request! sounds fun. actually, if we're for displaying turds and silvers, i think it would be fun to also have a table with the leading silver/turd receivers... sort of a turd league or hall of fame kinda thing. any thoughts?
This is now done. It wasn't cheap but we also made it so every new user starts with 10 WSO Credits (I also gave every existing user 10). Also, on every user's profile it will now show the number of silver bananas an monkey shits earned by that user...I expect this to accelerate the silver bananas and shit throwing considerably. get ready to duck.
We have also included blocks in the right column that show the top 10 users in terms of Silver Bananas awarded and Monkey Shit thrown at a user...if you click on "more" it will show the top 100 users for each of these categories.

ps - Marcus - it is very tough and could cause significant server drain linking to each comment that resulted in a Silver Banana or monkey shit being thrown at you. granted, it is probably pretty easy to figure it out if you look at your recent discussions...hope these new features will suffice for now (wasnt cheap to get us here).
the ranking idea sounds great, should have that in the sidebar or something
Second the ranking idea; the idea of showing which comments have received the most silver bananas could also help identify high-value content and drive eyeballs.

Thanks Dagro, now we have to find out a way to increase our click-through rate on our ads so we don't go out of business! (and afford all the $s we've piled in over the last 2-3 months + increase in fixed cost base)
I don't want to put the ads in a place that will annoy the users but without a higher CTR, a lot of the best campaigns will be pulled (happened to us earlier this month which has been tough).
I am thinking of switching the placement of the logo and the top 728x90 banner. Plus, we are bringing in a new vertical ad network in December that specializes on the luxury vertical so I am hoping those ads perform much better since we have so many ballers on here :-)

On every user profile page it will show you how many Silver Bananas you have earned and how many Monkey shits have been thrown at you (below your total Banana Points)
We are trying to make 2 new blocks / views that show the Top 10 users (top 100 if you click on "more") that have earned the most Silver Bananas and Top 10 users that have had the most Monkey Shit thrown at them.

ok, the addition of this feature is going to cost another $1,600 (on top of a lot of other web dev fees recently) so I am going to see if we can spread it out over 6 months so we dont go broke and keep adding fun stuff.

Patrick, I'd also suggest that when you login and it shows you got monkey shit thrown at you, it includes a link to the post that someone threw shit on.

yes, i'd like to take this thread and emphasize that unless you are getting 3 shits for every 1 silver banana you earn this system will HELP you get more bananas.
if you are getting more shit to silver bananas (in a 3:1 ratio) you are likely a troll so you will lose bananas and your ranking will drop.

Kudos Patrick. I was gone for a week and came back to some great changes. Two (hopefully small) tweaks that I think would further improve the silver banana / turd slinging action.
1 - I'd love to see, in addition to the banana points next to each user's name, a total silver banana and monkey crap count. I recognize it is in the profile (and therefore I imagine the coding should be pretty simple), but i think it would be nice to see it while scrolling through posts.
2 - On a similar note, instead of a "total votes" count, I'd like to see the breakout here as well. I silver banana'ed a guy with -3 votes, and the vote changed to -2. I dont think this sends the same message as +1 / -3. This is probably too nit-picky, but if its easy, would love to see the enhancement.
Hey CompBanker -- I think these are great suggestions but I'm a bit concerned about putting all that info up on each comment / post. What still determines the primary ranking is a users Banana points. The Silver Bananas and Monkey Shit would probably clutter the author line / make it unnecessarily long....but I also do think it would provide valuable information.
We need to watch costs for a few months but this is something I would be open to looking at in a month or so once we see how the system is panning out. Same thoughts on the "vote count". I agree more info. there would be nice (we went for simplicity instead to try and keep a clean design).

Another suggestion: You could set it up so that you and a few of your close moderators have unlimited credits. These individuals could be partially responsible for doling out bananas and shits where they deemed necessary without concern for using up credits.
Before anyone jumps on me: I'm not volunteering, just throwing the idea out there.
yes, we've already done this. There were a bunch of the more mature users we gave free WSO Credits to and we will continue to give them out so that the system continues to work as intended. Thanks for the suggestion (just credited you some more :-)

got some feces thrown at me the other day and it took me forever to find the post. im not sure if it was just a failure tied to delivery parameters but i never received notification (im rarely logged out, so maybe that was it?) anyway, im not complaining, but it did prompt some thoughts: in the tracking section is it too much to add a notice that identifies which threads you had monkey ish thrown at you? im just picturing instances like mine or perhaps what ill call historical shit (thrown at you from a post months ago) where it would be pretty tough to track it down. also i think this benefits users as well as are they are able to track a person and see whether particular posts were really useless/flaming and make a judgment for themselves as well. just a suggestion...
If you look in your user account under User Points I think you can click on "View" and see what comment caused monkey shit to fly your way.
