Anyone have experience with HK tailors?
I'll be going to China for 3 weeks this summer before my SA stint starts. I'll be in HK for a week and I was just wondering if anyone here has experience dealing with tailors in HK and the quality therein. I'd appreciate the insight.
Styleforum has extensive info on this subject. If your on somewhat of a budget and in the market for shirts the place to go is Jantzen. But def check out all the threads on SF, it's one of the most popular topics.
Singapore Tailors and / or Hong Kong (Originally Posted: 04/20/2014)
I'm going to be in Singapore next week and I was wondering if anyone here knew the best tailors as I would like to get a couple of shirts done. I'm also in Hong Kong in June so was wondering if this might be a better option for tailoring?? Anywhere around Orchard Road or Raffles Place area is fine....
Why on earth would you want to get clothes tailored in either of these places? They're not exactly going to be cheap.
Why on earth would you post a response when you have nothing helpful to add??
I have 3 suits from Nita Fashions. I believe their suits run around $650 each now and they are completely MTM.
it has a wide range of quality and prices. but you wont have trouble finding expensive or cheap suits in hk, thats the beauty/
Probably a couple hundred for total purchases. I'm debating whether or not it'd be worth it to get a suit there, since i'll only be there for a couple days. I may just try to find a good shirtmaker and get some shirts done (i'm thinking between $50-$100 a shirt as my budget). I have a super thick neck anyway, so it's usually difficult to buy shirts off the rack without them looking like blouses on me.
Styleforum is suggesting Jantzen but I'd love to hear what other input you guys have.
I bought a greyish blue suit and some shirts from Tai Pan Row last summer it is located in the IFC mall for about HK 2700 and HK500 respectively. It was made in about 7 days. I recommend you buy a tailor made shirts because I find they fit better than anything I have bought off the rack (the arm width in partcular) however I find my suit too slim as often the pants hug my nuts (I think in HK the style is more tight slender fits). I reccomend you take a mental note of what you like / don't like about your suits and shirts (my tailored made shirts have only one button on the cuff, I prefer two) so that you get exactly what you like. Good luck and talk to Manfred if you go, very helpfull.
Sounds good everyone. I think I would definitely go for the slender-fitting suits given my build.
So thus far, I've got Jantzen, Kwun Kee Tailor and Tai Pan Row.. anyone else have an opinion?
The nicest suit I have was $120 from Singapore. I'm yet to buy one nicer.
i have one pure white suit tailored in hk. i wear it in semi-formal events. it gets me so many comments in nyc, mostly compliments, of course. pm for tailor's address.
I'd check out WWChan. I think they've gotten vgood reviews on styleforum. Met them in Chicago and they were very helpful. They do overcoats, suits, and shirts, and go to major cities 2-3 times/year. Didn't order anything this year, going to early next year for sure though.
