Site Suggestions - OK, let me hear it!

Hey guys, it's been a while since we had one of our site suggestions threads where people tell me how much WSO is behind, where we can improve, etc...

It's usually a pretty depressing process for me since I've been plowing $ back into the site on a design, speed and UI standpoint and never feel like I can catch up to all the things I'd like to do, but I know every time I ask for your advice, I get at least a few great ideas...we still have about 40 To Dos on our list that haven't even been touched.

Some of the good since last time just off the top of my head (at least in my opinion):

1. Completely redesigned forms for easier content submission/better UI

2. New Menu and header structure that is simpler with icons in upper right to represent different areas (social share, site information, PMs/ site inbox, Your Profile Info, Search Bar) -- might be hard to believe, but this was much more cluttered before in our old header...

3. Moved groups to dedicated forum to help speed up site and simplify back end (located here: //www.wallstreetoasis.com/forum/wso-groups) - still was able to keep private Certified User chat

4. Developed views in order to be able to easily identify quality members with great SB:MS ratio faster and proactively get more Certified Users on board

5. Youtube videos...now anyone linking to a Youtube video - the site automatically embeds the video so you dont have to go offline to another tab tp watch it

6. Cleaned up job application process for job board

7. New icon / button design along with other jquery features like "in reply to" tabs with sliding functionality

8. Most major bugs with InfusionSoft solved, so helped automate training for the new SEO Interns, WSO Bloggers and WSO Campus Rep programs

9. New automated PMs to new users that guide them through site features and how to introduce themselves in the New User Intro forum

Still To Do and High Priority

1. redesign User profile edit page to make more intuitive along with simplifying the PM and notification options

2. Allow users to award SBs or MS for private messages (coming soon)

3. Continue to grow the WSO Blogger team and develop more fun segments like Monday @Mentions, Teaser Tuesdays, Caption Wednesdays, Webinar Thursdays and Bonus Bananas

4. Making mobile faster (and fixing inbox on mobile)

5. Improve browser pageload time on site

6. Many, many more...

Ok, so knowing all that, would still love to hear where you think we could improve the most and/or any bugs that have been annoying you...

Thanks in Advance Again - you guys rock!

-Patrick

I dont know how feasible this is but some sort of content check on the database entries would be good. At least a couple times someone has input McDonalds as a firm in order to get access without actually contributing anything. I realize this is probably not super high priority but, in my mind, if you cant even bother to spend 5 minutes doing something decent to get access to an otherwise free service, you dont deserve it.

Disclaimer: This could already be in place and I just saw it before it was removed

Thanks for the comment Happy. Yeah, adding a company itself doesn't get you access to the Company Database, and we have to be careful of just removing companies because they aren't directly on Wall Street. My guess is there are some very good corporate finance / corporate dev / M&A positions at McDonald's that would interest many users on here...

As far as the Interview Insights, Compensation Data and Company Reviews, every single one is reviewed every evening - we have actually implemented a better warning system recently since we were getting ~1-2 fakes per day (out of ~40-50 new submissions) which seems to be helping a lot (fewer submissions getting flagged).

We're very strict on the submissions and if something gets flagged as suspicious (hurdle much higher for new users), then it will be removed and the user automatically blocked...but I don't see McDonalds in there yet :-)

Hope that answers your questions?

Yep, perfect.

Also, now that the user base is larger, I think you need something beyond a star for a Certified User. Maybe a star and a tag for consistent contribution or something? I dont know. Just seems like having to send an email from a related email account is a bit of a low bar.

You can probably just ignore me. Ive been in an all day meeting so anything to distract me at this point I am taking full advantage of.

First, I think you guys are doing a great job.

A few things that I think might help with user engagement:

Some more content covering specific aspects of careers. If there was one post that got me to really stick around on the site back when I first started coming here it was Mr. Pink Monkey's Sourcing Ideas, Investing, and Valuation post. I know that kind of content is time consuming to write and is a lot to ask of your bloggers, but I think it would help keep younger users around and the discussion might encourage more experienced users contribute more often. I don't even think that kind of content needs to be done weekly, but making an effort to do it regularly would go a long way in my opinion.

Bring back book reviews on a regular basis. Maybe I've just missed them lately, but I haven't seen one in a while and I really liked those.

I've really enjoyed the new bloggers and the content they've done so definitely keep doing that.

[quote=patternfinder]Of course, I would just buy in scales. [/quote] See my WSO Blog | my AMA

As far as speeding up the site more (though I'm not so sure it needs it) - do people actually use the follow functions?

PS- Can we have taco mondays?

It may be close to impossible, but resurrecting brady4mvp would be a big score for the site. Perhaps give him his own forum, you could name it Brady's Corner, where M7 hopefuls exchange their thoughts on how wonderful their lives will be once accepted. Short of that, I got nothing. The site is awesome!

One thing that really grinds my gears is the automatic linking of words to their definitions. For example, if someone typed "I am impressed..." it will be displayed as "I AM impressed" and link to the definition of Asset Management. Perhaps the word could also be case-matched, so 'I am' isn't linked but 'AM' is?

Post jumping doesn't work properly, especially from user track, quoted messages, reply to messages, and feed. I'm using chrome and I've refreshed my cache.

An easy way to tell when a user was last active.

Some sort of public SB/MS ratio ranking so we can hone in on users to follow/track.

A bare-bones / black & white / plain-text version of the site to make it easier to browse at work.

If you manually edit a quote message reply and add a quote tag your post doesn't say "replied to"

Phone experience is not great for me relative to web experience, I have Chrome on Galaxy 2...issues with things responding as expected (reply/quote), pop-ups/ads that keep moving and make it hard to not accidentally click on them, inconvenient sizing/arrangement of buttons/icons, etc.

As I mentioned previously the ability to bookmark and refer back to individual comments.

Weird auto-linking in posts...for instance the acronym MS used in the context of monkey shit gets converted to a link for Morgan Stanley...that's kind of distracting especially when editing or replying to a post and not relevant in context.

It is annoying when you're unable to edit your post when you accidentally quote yourself because you clicked the quote button instead of the edit button.

Ability to delete comments that haven't been quoted. You can always just edit them to be nothing or a single character but that is just clutter.

Separate forum that isolates posts relating to individual stock analysis and/or investment views.

Almost every time someone tries to @ mention me I never get the message because I have a space in my user name and people don't know to put quotes around it.

Thanks as always - before we start, I'd like to say that we have been investing more and more every month into web development but it has finally reached the point where I think we need to bring on a 2nd developer to improve the bug fixes. I just hired a new developer today that should be starting on Monday, but it may take a few weeks for her impact to be noticeable...thanks for the patience.... will try to tackle these 1 by 1:

  1. Post jumping doesn't work properly, especially from user track, quoted messages, reply to messages, and feed. I'm using chrome and I've refreshed my cache.

Yes, this has been buggy for a long long time. every time I think we have it fixed, it breaks down again. some days it works for me, some days it doesn't and I know it can be very frustrating. I will put this up near the top of fixes (again, for the 100th tme) to see if we can get at the root cause of why this is happening (maybe a conflict with some of our caching systems which is pretty complex to keep the site running fast).

  1. An easy way to tell when a user was last active.

hmmm, not sure how wed'd be able to do this...something more specific besides going to their tracker page on their profile? Do you use that?

  1. Public SB / MS ratio to show quality of poster

I think this is a good suggestion and we already have a private view of registered users that shows a ratio of SB/Total SB+MS...so the closer to 1, the better the ratio...this view only displays users that are not Certified Users so that we can identify new users that should potentiall be certified and proactively reach out to them. We already have Top Users and Top SB collectors, but I guess we could add in something like Top Ratio? The question is, where do you place the cut-off adn how do you rank them. If someone has 5 SBs and 0 MS, they woudl be a "perfect" 1.0 ratio and technically outrank someone with 40SBs and 1MS (extreme example)...so are you suggesting we put in some sort of cutoff, like you have to have ~10 SBs to even be listed?

  1. A bare-bones / black & white / plain-text version of the site to make it easier to browse at work.

Designing an entirely new theme is not easy, but in Drupal if we do design that theme, it is easy to let users select which one they want to see...i know bare bones sounds like it's easy to design, but when you start removing / shifting elements, it jacks up the entire wireframe. What about an option that was just black / white and greys?

  1. If you manually edit a quote message reply and add a quote tag your post doesn't say "replied to"

I think this is an example of coding for an rare use case and our dev time and $ is best spent on other tasks...how many times is this happening and isnt it obvious who they are quoting if it's in the reply? we didn't have the in reply to tabs just a few short months ago, i don tthink there is an easy solution to this based on how the commenting / in reply to tab code works...

Pop-ups should not be happening - we improved the mobile layout about 6 months ago but looks like it needs more. We also know that the inbox is not showing the proper # of messages on mobile either (on to do list). Can you be specific about the button issues? Make them even bigger? Thanks

  1. As I mentioned previously the ability to bookmark and refer back to individual comments.

We looked into this an no easy way to get comments into the same Bookmark view you see for bookmarked threads under My Bookmarks...but not giving up yet, I think with ~$300-400 of web dev we can figure this out or a way to make it work...

  1. Weird auto-linking in posts...for instance the acronym MS used in the context of monkey shit gets converted to a link for Morgan Stanley...that's kind of distracting especially when editing or replying to a post and not relevant in context.

Yes, not easy for the module to know context, but also good for new users when someone is talking about GS and MS, they know what MS stands for...don't think there is an easy solution here except maybe remove the "MS" auto link, but I think it's helping more than hurting.

  1. It is annoying when you're unable to edit your post when you accidentally quote yourself because you clicked the quote button instead of the edit button.

What if we move the edit button all the way to the right on comments so this isn't an issue?

  1. Ability to delete comments that haven't been quoted. You can always just edit them to be nothing or a single character but that is just clutter.

Agree this would be nice. but that would require us changing the class of comments that have been quoted and messing with permissions based on that class. plus, what if there is a thread that an OP started, then nobody quotes him but there are 30+ responses...you want to allow him/her to delete the initial post and everyone elses comment with it (if you delete a parent node of a comment it is also removed...).

  1. Separate forum that isolates posts relating to individual stock analysis and/or investment views.

Typically we've placed these in the Traders Train forum, but I'm open to the idea of keeping the traders forum more just for S&T trends / careers and having just a dedicated investment forum. Investment Idea forums? other potential names?

  1. Almost every time someone tries to @ mention me I never get the message because I have a space in my user name and people don't know to put quotes around it.

Have literally been waiting for over 1 month and already invested over $1k into getting a better solution live, where we have an auto fill...so if you type @, the form knows to bring up an auto-fill box as you start to type out someone's username, so you can select the ones that way instead of having to put " " around usernames with spaces (I agree, not an elegant solution, but we pushed it live to get something going)...guy keeps saying he is close, but I have no idea when it will be pushed live and I haven't seen a working prototype yet. I'm hopeful for next week, but realistic given how long this has already taken....

Thanks for all of your feedback - as always, you go into detail and really get how to use the site, so feedback on how we can improve is always welcomed. We have a lot to do and hopefully I can keep you updated as we make those changes right in this thread :-)

Thanks! Patrick

For #2, can you make the tracker track the last post a user made instead of the last post in the thread where that user last posted? So, right now if I had made a post on a thread 2 months ago and someone made a post yesterday, that would show at the top of the list. Instead you could just make it so that the tracker orders by the users last post. This is generally a pretty normal feature on forums, I'd think it would be easy... though I don't know drupal that well.

WallStreetOasis.com:

2. An easy way to tell when a user was last active.

hmmm, not sure how wed'd be able to do this...something more specific besides going to their tracker page on their profile? Do you use that?

Tracker pages would be fine, just something that shows the date of last post. I would imagine this is doable through a query that looks at the timestamps of all posts by a given user and outputs that latest one. The reason I asked this is so that a) someone can clean up their feed for inactive users, b) you can avoid a situation involving quoting/messaging someone that hasn't been active in a while and expecting a reply.

WallStreetOasis.com:

My suggestion would be some cutoff (like 10) for minimum SBs and/or minimum bananas, and treat 0 MS as 0.99. So, 5/0 would be better than 5/1 but worse than 6/1 and worse than 11/2. I suppose there are many ways to do it.

WallStreetOasis.com:

4. What about an option that was just black / white and greys?

Black/white/gray theme would be a benefit, but the issue is really that the overall design (particularly with regard to contrasts) is meant to be visually captivating (which it is) but that is not what you want when you're surfing the web at work and would rather that not be noticed by passersby. For example, just the fact that the post area is so distinctly separated from the background is quite noticeable from a distance and catches the eye.

WallStreetOasis.com:

6. Pop-ups should not be happening - we improved the mobile layout about 6 months ago but looks like it needs more. We also know that the inbox is not showing the proper # of messages on mobile either (on to do list). Can you be specific about the button issues? Make them even bigger? Thanks

Pop-ups are sporadic, right now I'm not seeing them but I've seen them recently. When I go to my own profile page on my phone the formatting is off, particularly the blue buttons in the middle. I think various buttons could be made bigger on phone (for example, SB/MS, reply/quote, "+", etc)

WallStreetOasis.com:
9. What if we move the edit button all the way to the right on comments so this isn't an issue?

That would help, and/or give the user some sort of warning they have to accept if they try to quote their own post.

WallStreetOasis.com:

10. Ability to delete comments that haven't been quoted. You can always just edit them to be nothing or a single character but that is just clutter.

As a compromise maybe have a "request delete" button just like the flag button but only shows up on your own posts, and since the deletion would be done by a moderator no permissions would have to be altered.

WallStreetOasis.com:

Investment Ideas works, or maybe more broadly Investment Views, anything that is obvious that it's related to talking about investments/fundamentals/markets/etc.

For my asks, the most desirable additions for me are the work-friendly theme and bookmarking individual posts, and the most beneficial content wise would be the investment ideas forum.

Nice! Thanks.

Two things:

1) For some strange reason, the bookmarked comment isn't appearing on the first page of my bookmarks section, but appears on the bottom of 2nd page onwards.

2) The browser isn't directing to the particular comment when I click on it from the bookmarks page, but directs to the top of the first page of the thread which contains the bookmark. This is pretty critical I think to the bookmarked comments feature because the goal is to find favorite comments quickly instead of having to go through a whole thread.

not sure if this way unique to me, but whenever I would browse on a mobile device I would CONSTANTLY get kicked out of safari into the Appstore. It was quite annoying, and would only happen when I was on WSO.

I think this has been changed, but if it hasn't- do it. No one downloads the stupid app, and makes me not want to go back to WSO.

I know you mentioned improving mobile speed and inboxes already, but I think mobile in general is an area for significant improvement. Whenever I click any of the tabs (recent, forums, etc.) it displays really weirdly.

Also, whenever I am out of the full window on the computer I get bumped to a mobile esque display of the site which is really annoying. It sucks when I want to have WSO on one side and like ESPN on the other or something, and I'm forced to browse on an inferior version of the site.

Thanks Patrick!

We still need to mature this appearance of the site up a bit. It just isn't compatible for at work viewing.

I think it's come a long way, but I understand/agree. Not sure how to go about that though - it would take a pretty substantial redesign to make it "look professional"

Honestly just making it darker would help. The bright blue all over the screen is pretty cartoonish. I get that its part of the brand and I dont hate it but a sleek black or something could fulfill that requirement.

Sorry if I have missed this somehow, but it would be really nice to highlight a certain user's posts in a thread or at least the OP's. I feel it would work especially well in the long AMA threads that we get every now and then from brand new users that haven't really taken the time to update their profile with a picture (which would help them stand out) and so they are often lost between the other fresh account posters that are usually the majority in these threads.

Maybe make a skin without the colors? Require certified status to get it? Not sure if this is worth the time, though I don't think it should be too hard.

Add a non-intrusive donate button (similar to wikipedia-but not as in your face) somewhere. I'm sure that this site is a labor of love and intensive and I'd be happy to throw a couple of bucks to the site now and then to support all of the good work. Just an idea.

Are a lot of users buying wso credits? I'm asking this because I believe that a lot of users (myself included) read a lot of posts but do not post that much. Thus we do not get any credits (I think that it's 3 credits for a hundred bananas). To be fairly honest, I don't see myself buying credits but on the other hand, I want to give out SBs to many useful/interesting comments.

How about giving 1 WSO credit per month (if you log in) or something in that range? Is there a way to "print" more credits while keeping their value?

With an increasing number of users, the valuable comments per day are also increasing and only a small percentage of users stack credits. (Keep in mind, this is assuming that the revenue coming from WSO Credits is negligible).

Pat changed it to 5 wso credits for every 25 banana points you earn. That's a huge jump from what it used to be (5/100).

"You stop being an asshole when it sucks to be you." -IlliniProgrammer "Your grammar made me wish I'd been aborted." -happypantsmcgee

WallStreetOasis.com:

yeah, as D M said, there should be a lot more wso credits in circulation over the next few months as people are now getting 5 WSO Credits for every 25 bananas earned.

There's some major bananaflation going on. I like it.

I think it would be kinda cool if you wso credits ramped with your total banana count. E.g. - from 0 to 100 you get 1 banana every 25 pts, from 100 to 500 you get 2 bananas for every 25 pts, etc.

First off Patrick, I'd just like to thank you for this site and everything it is that you do. With that being said, I'd like to point out a few areas of improvement for mobile (sorry if these have been mentioned but I didn't read through all of the posts above).

  1. Inbox: for some reason, it will randomly tell me I have messages when I don't. The other day it said I had 43 messages but when I checked there were none!

  2. Forums: The drop down box doesn't appear and it's weird. When I click on forums it doesn't pop up, I have to hold it down until the open page option pops up on my phone.

  3. Start discussion: this is not an option on my phone. (I have an iPhone). This is a big one I've noticed.

  4. Replies to comments: A way to see who a comment is in reply to on mobile would be great as opposed to having to reason or scroll up and down constantly.

That's it! But is there any possibility of an app to be developed? That would be incredible. Thanks so much!

Thanks for the kind words...sounds like most of your issues are on mobile...quick response:

  1. yes, this is a known issue on mobile - we're working on a solution - hope to have a fix pushed live by end of year

  2. the drop downs shouldnt appear on the mobile site since this would be pretty cluttered on small screen size...i think we made it so you have to click through to the forum page on purpose

  3. Great point. Will add this in (see, I am a moron for missing this :-)

  4. Will see if we can get the "In reply to" tabs in mobile theme as well (funny that we had people saying we didn't need or want these ~1 month ago, now want it in mobile, lol)

For a mobile app, what would be different than the mobile version of the site? App development for the sake of app development is expensive, especially across multiple platforms, so we prefer to make our theme mobile friendly / dynamic for now...unless you can tell me something the app could do that would make it markedly better platform than the mobile site?

Thanks for the feedback! Patrick

Big ups for responding to everything. The change we talked through in the other thread is going to be awesome so I'm sure great things will come out of this as well.

Patrick, I think that it would be super helpful on the company compensation forms to have a question about highest level of education received or at least if it's pre/post MBA. Sometimes the person's title gives away but oftentimes doesn't. It seems like a very important data point to consider when looking at comp.

An update:

  1. @"Going concern" edit icons now moved to the right of the PM button so I don't think you shoudl be hitting it by mistake when you're trying to reply now

  2. New "Work friendly" theme is almost complete...really all it does is grey out as many elements as possible (no pictures, no green buttons, no blue, etc...even the logo is grey...) - this MAY be reay by end of week, but more likely during Xmas week. @oreos @happypantsmcgee @globan

  3. speaking of the @mention module and trying to improve that, we are now over $2k in web dev expense trying to get this working the best way possible (ie working when username has a space, popping a box up after you type first 3 letters of username, etc). It is CLOSE and looks awesome for the use cases when it works, but we still have some challenges to work through (getting @mention to workin the ajax reply boxes, node / forum creation boxes, etc). This one is priority so hoping we can roll it out by end of week...

Thanks for the patience guys! Patrick

Stoked to check out the work friendly theme, it should help a lot

Ok, finally some new updates:

@"Going Concern" - we not have a much better @mention feature live, so even users with spaces in their name will get the PMs, @"happypantsmcgee"

New feature that notifies you over PM when you are rewarded a SB or hit with monkey shit, and a link to where it happened, so you are able to easily see where you are collecting SBs and Monkey shit in more real time (also made these types of PMs easy to turn off if you dont want them)

New "Work Friendly" theme coming live probably in another ~1-2hrs...will announce it under Site suggestions forum and show you how to turn it on...

Faster / cleaner mobile verison going live as well in next 1-2 hrs...will get another facelift tomorrow too (making logo up top smaller so that takes up less valuable real estate, adding in start discussion button, link to my profile, etc)

Thanks for your patience! Patrick

Nice...minor nitpick, if you type @Goi, a box pops up with my user name as the first one, but if you then hit backspace (because you typed something wrong) it goes back on your browser instead of backspacing in your post. I think the only way to "escape" the @mention pop-up box is to click the x on the top corner of the box, but this requires using your mouse which is a turn-off. Also, not a big deal but it would be nice if the pop-up box appeared right where you are typing instead of all the way to the right side, similar to Intelligent Code Completion boxes that pop up in IDEs.

One of the main reasons I come to WSO is to either ask technical questions or to read other members' technical questions. The problem is, I have to go through all the different forums (PE, IB, ER etc) to find them. Would it be possible to have a forum just for technical questions where all the questions such as "how do I forecast X...", "how do I adjust for Y...", "should I consider Z in my model...." etc could be found?

@wallstreetoasis this is the kind of thing / appearance would, in my mind, make WSO a bit more work friendly. http://financeandstrategy.wordpress.com/2012/09/04/a-value-investors-pe…

I've wanted this for a while.... //www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/accounting-financial-theory-technicals-f…

Maybe get @"WallStreetOasis.com" to switch the Markets/Investing forum into a general Questions forum.

Pat, I think you should unsticky those groups in the WSO Groups forum. Just let the threads that get used be at the top.

"You stop being an asshole when it sucks to be you." -IlliniProgrammer "Your grammar made me wish I'd been aborted." -happypantsmcgee

Couple small things - the text is messed up on the page navigation buttons and when I get logged out and then log back into WSO I get taken to a random thread instead of the home page.

"For I am a sinner in the hands of an angry God. Bloody Mary full of vodka, blessed are you among cocktails. Pray for me now and at the hour of my death, which I hope is soon. Amen."

Busy is a vast improvement, cheers @wallstreetoasis

adding this in...major updates to the WSO Company Database search has been keeping us busy. The new page will allow you to search for different content types (just companies, just interview insights, just comp data or just company reviews) much more easily with appropriate filters for each, like the Offer recieved, as an example for the interview insight search...

The busy theme gets about 50-60% of the way there in terms of what I was hoping for.

Positives

-- The colors of many things have been muted to black/white/gray hues -- Avatars removed from posts -- Images removed from posts

Negatives

-- Many colors still remain, including in ads, side banners, SB numbers, big blue box on the bottom, yellow search box, etc -- Videos still remain in posts -- The eye-catching formatting hasn't changed at all (aside from avatar removal), which comprises about half of the overall appearance (the other half being colors) and greatly contributes to the "non-work-friendly" nature of the site's image.

Additional changes that would help the busy theme include removing all colors one way or another, removing/hiding top and side banners, stretching out posts/text area to browser width, and removing videos.

sorry man, already put in a ton of time and effort to get the community that work theme -- and honestly maintaining 2 themes is a nightmare since we are constantly tweaking / improving, etc...already been having headaches trying to keep main theme, mobile theme, work theme, work mobile theme all looking decent.

I think it's probably best overall if we invest in the main theme and mobile theme and maybe you can install an extension like this to make browsing wso less obvious: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/grayscale-tool/odolflphhameojgliipcnahnipmogigo

doubling the theme work every time we want to make a change i think is just a bad idea and will slow our progress/iterations considerably...I think investing in a mini-mirror on your monitor to know when your boss is approaching is also $ well spent (plus practicing alt-tab into a spreadsheet :-)

Thanks, much appreciated...there is more we are working on.

In the next hour, we are pushing the following live:

  1. We are cleaning up the theme / page of WSO Video Library which contains over 80 Q&A/mock interview and mentor videos (it's a mess right now)

  2. Fixing mobile inbox issue (was showing random # of new messages when on mobile)

  3. Icon alignment on Company nodes

  4. Putting bookmark icon back on mobile theme version

  5. Some backend stuff

....by early next week...

MAJOR change to the WSO Company Database and how you are able to search...by many more fields and my specific content types (Just Comp, Just Interview Insights or Just Reviews)...

...also, 2014 WSO Compensation Report in the works again...likley to be released in February...

The Certified User chat is still around (chat callout icon in upper right) and the most popular groups were given their own forum here: //www.wallstreetoasis.com/forum/wso-groups

The reason they were removed is because an extremely small % of members used them (if any) on a daily basis, and the different structure with permissions of the "group module" made the site much more complex (ie slower).

You're also welcome to create a new group thread in the WSO Groups forum to try and find the group of people you are looking for (we're also in the process of improving user search so that we can filter by industry, position, etc)...

Thanks, Patrick

Ok, makes more sense; these groups were indeed quite dead.

I would suggest to create a commodities trading group (or renaming the energy trading one), as there has been quite a lot of requests recently under that topic.

Maybe automatically mirror all the topics which are tagged under commodities trading under that group. There is a lot of extremely valuable information in the forum, the issue is its scattered all around the place within the trading forum.

Minor thing, but it would be nice if when you clicked on the "# new posts" on a thread from the index it took you straight to the first of those new posts.

"That dude is so haole, he don't even have any breath left."

For whatever reason, number of new replies column disappeared in thread listing. This means I have no idea how many replies are new and can't really figure out where to restart, etc. Need to bring that back.

Suggested somewhere before, but with thread listing, page numbers should be shown like in other forums. I don't want to start at page 1, and then find my way to page 5 for some topic with 287 posts.

I've got the same problem. On mobile, I also get a long except from each thread in the topic lists, which makes looking at thread titles/navigating to threats painful.

Those who can, do. Those who can't, post threads about how to do it on WSO.

For me, reply count/bookmarks are missing on both mobile and desktop.

On mobile, I also get a large preview of the OP next to the thread topic when I look at the list of threads in a forum, which I don't find useful. html code shows explicitly as well, so I often get a long string of html code in the preview.

Those who can, do. Those who can't, post threads about how to do it on WSO.

I'm missing replies count and have the white page problems on Chrome

"You stop being an asshole when it sucks to be you." -IlliniProgrammer "Your grammar made me wish I'd been aborted." -happypantsmcgee

Reply count on Chrome desktop and firefox android now fine.

Autopreview of post text on firefox android has now gone away.

Whiteout using Chrome also gone.

Looks like all back to normal from my end.

Those who can, do. Those who can't, post threads about how to do it on WSO.

the hover feature has been giving me problems. I use Chrome, don't know if that matters, but I just tried to bookmark Wall St Playboys' post on TMT (don't have time to read now) and the part where you can bookmark just expanded & collapsed continuously and never let me click any of the buttons. not sure if this is a browser error or if it's a site error, either way, let me know!

Can you PLEASE get rid of the javascript thing when you scroll down a post, the action bar on each comment automatically expands? It is literally giving me a headache after going through a single post. Once I thought I was done scrolling to the point I want to read, the comments vertically enlarge themselves so I have to scroll down again. And the animation is very annoying. Please bring back the old GUI. Now I can't stay on WSO more than 10 minutes.

I don't want to sound like a child, but seeing each comment expanding its action bar is visually nauseating. I feel sick after surfing through a couple of posts. Please at least provide an option where you can turn off this animation effect? WSO used to be my favorite sites, and the new javascript animation is making it unusuable... How is one supposed to read through a forum when its contents are moving around by itself?

@"WallStreetOasis.com", A category under the Forums section on this site should be geared toward Corporate/Commercial Banking. Corp/Comm bankers are also "Wall Street" players that are underrepresented on this form. I think it would be awesome, if we could get more flow of information regarding this path since most other sites on the internet espouse inaccurate or misleading information about this sector of the financial service industry. Thanks!

This may sound like an odd request, but it'd be really nice to have a "print" button in each thread. I'd love to be able to print some of the awesome content on WSO to have a hard copy for easy access. Many of the write-ups are very insightful, and having a "print" button to easily format and print these posts would be great. As it stands, printing from a thread requires copying and pasting the original post into Word or just printing out the whole thread (I'd imagine most people would only want to print the write-up, without the comments). Thanks for all the time you guys put into this site, it really is a fantastic resource.

I accidentally bookmarked a comment today and discovered that it's impossible to unbookmark it. I can unbookmark a post but not a comment for some reason. I don't know if this is a glitch or a flaw in the design of the site. Either way, I would recommend adding some sort of an edit feature to the My Bookmarks page that would allow you to quickly delete any unwanted bookmarks.

A few issues that have been frustrating in my experience:

1) The search function really needs tweaking. A simple search for a large investment bank's name produces many random results and in a seemingly random chronological order. At the very least, sorting by date (not just filtering by year) should be an easy addition. Many results seem to pick up on terms in the auto-generated suggested threads portion of the thread...leading to many results that have no relevance at all to the search term and do not even include the search term anywhere on the page. Someone searching for the word "Goldman" will face a sea of dated, irrelevant results on the first page of the results.

2) Viewing a user's post history by clicking Track or by subscribing to their posts is quite user-unfriendly and can be frustrating. The person's history should really be sorted by posts not by threads. A user may have posted something in a thread 3 years ago on page 21 of a thread but as long as its "fresh" it will show up at the top of their post history - and worse, when clicking on the link you will be taken to the beginning of the thread and need to spend 10 minutes hunting for the post page by page. It would be great if the user history was sorted by post and when you click the link it takes you straight to that post, not the beginning of the thread.

3) Thread dates seem to be getting manipulated in order to seem new. I'm not sure if this is what's happening or not but it has seemed like that on many occasions. Basically I will see a thread with a fresh date but the replies are much older. It's confusing and makes it seem like manipulation.

With this criticism comes great appreciation for the site - these are just a few things that I have noticed and seem easy to fix.
