Sneaking into Bulge Brackets: School Year Internships
Hi Guys,
Quick question: has anyone had luck working their way into bulge bracket offices for some sort of unstructured school year internship? I am thinking specifically of "non-NY" cities, like Chicago or Dallas, where this might be more possible. Any tips here?
Thanks!
Not necessarily in a BB but my firm is on the cusp. I was able to secure an internship through the summer and I was able to extend it throughout the school year. It is possible however much more difficult if you dont have an established relationship with the firm already.
Relatively impractical in IBD, as part-time interns can be a serious liability to the deal process (if you can't finish a deck and have to go to class, the team has to wait for you to complete the assignment before moving on, or wait for you to tell an analyst what you've been doing, etc.)
The few I've seen do part-time IBD internships at BB are typically seniors returning FT, just picking up hours for pay during their senior years.
JPM offers a part-time ER internship in NYC. GS/MS have offered credit risk part-time opportunities in the past. Networking may yield some results, although the opportunities of this nature are likely more the product of luck/connections than true merit.
Just FYI though - Jefferies offered a part-time IBD internship this spring in the healthcare group, Houlihan has been known to offer internships on their advisory teams, and Lazard did night shift internships once upon a time.
I currently am working as a part-time IB intern at a MM bank. They gave me the offer to extend through the summer (meaning potential FT offer), but I had already accepted a summer S&T SA back in November.
BB/top Boutique Internship during school year? (Originally Posted: 07/24/2010)
I'm a rising junior going to school in a city where most BBs and some top boutiques have small regional IBD offices. I know there are no structured programs, but is it possible they would hire an intern to work during the fall? I have some contacts at some of them, but don't want to waste their time if this isn't even a possibility. What do ya think?
dude thats what contacts are for
