Someone's Gotta Bring it Up: Tiger Mom Part 2.

How does WSO feel about this? I have to confess, the premise makes me wonder more than I should allow myself to.

However, I feel that this new book is a tremendous embarrassment for Yale Law School, given it's wholesale lack of academic rigor. What do you all think?

.

Retarded. As a an Asian American, this parenting style only works with insecure kids and even then, they only 'thrive' (and only on paper) while still under their helicopter parents' hawk eyes.

Destroys self-confidence and raises kids with a huge chip on their shoulder, dependent on their parents to think for them. Once they're out of their mom's shade and direction, everything falls apart. I've seen it with so many Asian Americans.

OP isn't talking about her first book

No I know. Sorry, I should have been more clear. I meant that as an illustration of why chinese people aren't 'superior' like Chua claims. as in her claim is based on faulty logic.

outside of highly rigid, structured programs, their 'success' falls apart. all they do is raise fantastic obedient drones.

I used to but I've gotten over it. She tried her best and raised me the way she thought best. Can't blame her for trying. Your life's your own. If you dislike something about yourself, change it.

If you look at Confucian based societies, it makes sense why tiger moms think their way is the best way. That's what worked.
