Sophomore Internship leading to MBB?
Hey everyone,
I'm a sophomore who is interested in eventually landing an internship/job at an MBB firm, and I'm wondering what sort of internships I should ideally aim to get for my sophomore summer. What would prepare me best for landing an MBB offer my junior summer? Any insight or advice would be appreciated.
In case some added context would be useful in determining what sort of internships I can pursue, I'm currently attending a top target ivy and have a 3.5 GPA
Any of the Tier 2 management consultancies would be ideal. Some offer sophomore internships (I know Deloitte S&O does) and some don't. Other safe bets would be F500 Finance, most banking internships, and/or engineering internships (assuming you're some sort of engineering major).
Assuming top target Ivy means HYP (there is really no reason not to say that), 3.5 is really iffy for a MBB internship interview unless you are an engineering major.
Since I'm not an engineering major, what would be an acceptable GPA for MBB?
3.7+
How would working at an NGO be viewed?
Depends on the NGO, is it well-known (at least among those who know about these things)? The Sophomore internship is pure signalling, no one really expects you to learn much as a result of it, but wants to see that you have the maturity and sense to be a part of a serious organization. Also, like the guy above me said, a 3.5 is pretty iffy.
Sophomore IBD to get into Junior MBB Internship? (Originally Posted: 07/13/2015)
Hey guys, thanks for your time and thoughts. I'm a rising Sophomore at a semi-target school hoping to land an MBB internship offer in 2 summers (2017). What can I do this upcoming summer (2016) to most impress MBB recruiters / interviewers?
Particularly, I'm pretty sure I could land a good IBD internship this summer. So would an IBD internship look better to the top consulting firms than a F500 corporate finance role or 2nd tier consulting firm? I've read a few posts similar to this on the site, but it was hard for me to really understand what the answer was.
Thanks so much!
This doesn't directly answer your question, but have you ruled out a potential internship at a consulting firm? If you start networking now, I'm sure you can land something at a non-MBB firm. I don't actually know if that would look better than IBD, but it seems more relevant so I'd think it would.
