Sophomore Internship - Sophmore at a very non-target
I am a sophomore at a very non target university, which of these offers will put me in the best position for a junior year internship in equity research:
- very small M&A shop
- PWM at one of the top bulge brackets
thanks
That's really hard to say. Sure PWM has the name recognition, but a lot of sophomores will have PWM internships. Not everyone will have an M&A shop. Even though its a very small shop getting interviews is all about networking and standing out, you will standout more with the M&A---take it.
Thanks. But are there really that many sophomores that have top pwm internships because some banks say on their websites that you have to be a junior.
what m&a shop?
i prefer not to say, but it is not well known
I would definitely go with the M&A internship - but I am speaking for an IB point of view - not necessarily the same as an ER point of view. That said, M&A, even if a small shop, should definitely carry more weight than PWM and will call on your accounting, finance, and analytical aptitudes. If you can work on a deal or two during the time that just strengthens your resume and adds more validity to the position .
Do you live in Chicago by any chance? If yes, expect a PM from me.
No I dont. Why?
i mean i find it hard to believe you would be deciding between these two options. Ibanking and investment management are very different industries and its two entirely different skill sets so to speak. depends on what direction you think you want to go
Like I already said, I am looking to get into research
