speed up interview process?
I've already received an offer, but it is only second choice.
What do you guys recommend?
Should I call my preferred bank (us IB in London) and ask HR to speed up the interview process? I

no offence, but maybe someone with a little more experience could answer my question
Don't even try to complain about my grammar and spelling mistakes!
Yes, you should be up front with your #1 and tell them that you have an offer and it expires on X date. "Is there any way we could speed up the process?" Just be polite and don't be pushy. this is a very common situation and they shoudl be used to pushing people through fast.
Also, if the bank that gave you an offer is only giving you a week or so, make sure you don't let that one slip through the cracks by being too unresponsive / vague.
@ nychimp - thanks for your help

Interesting how I gave you the exact same answer
@ aspiringmonkey - there is a slight difference between nychimp's answer and your simple "yes".

your results will vary depending on the bank and how much they like you, etc...you may not be able to speed up the other process enough which will put you in a tough spot.
I would take the sure thing if the timing starts to get close or the bank that gave you the offer starts to sound annoyed.
because i knew if I gave you the long version, you'd be bitching about how I have no experience in that area. Damned if you do, damned if you don't

When/if you call HR at the bank in London, you can explain to them you have an "expolding offer" due to expire on xyz date. That your first choice is xx Bank and you wonder if there is any possibility of even having the second interview via video-telecom at their NYC/where ever office.
Most of the Banks/Firms have finished recruitment for grad positions, class of 2007. But some Euro/US banks are still trying to find slots for interviews. It is very backed up and late this years, for whatever reason. London has actually surpassed Wall Street in IPO volumn. No let up here, will be cranking out and long hours thru the new year.
Hard to get associates/vps/MDs to interview and a few people have been given interviews in mid to late January.
Best of luck to you.
thanks,
both banks are top 10 IBs.
A small disadvantage of my #2 offer is that I would have to work at one of their regional offices - assume something like Paris/Frankfurt/Milano - and not in London.

So I assume you are business-fluent in french+german+italian...Are you swiss ?
False... damned if you do? yes... however, if you wouldn't have responded, no one would have given you any shit at all
Where is the fun in that?
