How long to wait before following up
Hey guys. I had an initial phone screen with HR Last Wednesday. In the call, she told me that I had moved on to the next round and told me about the process. I haven’t heard back anything yet. When should I follow up?
Just email her and ask if there is a date for the next round.
No reply. Should I call?
The recruitment process has a series of steps and few people are involved directly and indirectly in the decision making process and it takes time. Often a manager may be on business trip or someone has not made the decision yet due to their prior commitments and so on.
I would give them about 1o business days time and still they did not contact you then it is appropriate to ring them.

How & When to Properly Follow up with Contacts (Originally Posted: 06/04/2013)
So this summer while completing my SA internship, I have been networking via cold calls/emails and in-person meetings during my lunch break. I have reached out to a lot of great people who were very helpful in providing information, and at this point I have several contacts at a lot of BB's. I am only a sophomore right now, and want to use my networking to help land a junior year SA position at a BB, preferably.
How exactly does one go about utilizing these contacts? I am pretty good at staying in touch with them, via email or grabbing coffee etc. but I just don't understand how this process progresses any further. I don't want to be blunt and ask them to send my resume around or something. What exactly should I do here? Just keep close contact during the summer, obtain as many contacts as possible, and then when fall comes maybe reach out asking if they could help me in regards to SA recruiting? Or should I start asking how to best position myself now, as maybe the earlier the better?
I am good at doing all the "pre" networking stuff like picking up the phone and finding people to meet, I am very outgoing and enjoy doing so. It is just after the fact, I never know exactly what to do and how to be successful with these contacts I have. Let me know what you guys have done in the past, thanks.
in my experience, after the first or second time you've connected with a contact, it's generally fair game to start asking them for favors (given you've connected on a personal level). that said, you need a job posting to refer to or some sort of reason for them to push your resume
I'm wondering because I'm in a similar position, and am unsure how to leverage the contacts I've connected with.
Yeah I am not sure. I would say being blunt would be acceptable when recruiting is very active, which obviously at this time in the summer, it is not. Should I keep in touch until the later fall months, and then ask for favors? What im essentially asking is: Is asking for a favor in regards to SA recruiting which is like 6 months away, too premature?
Hello, dear! Maybe I am not right, but it seems to me that it is better to give a folow up as soon as possible after your meeting. Good luck to you!
How soon is it appropriate to follow up a phone interview with a phone call? (Originally Posted: 06/02/2009)
Had a phone interview with a prestigious hedge fund's HR last week and wanted to follow up with her without seeming desperate.
Was it exactly a week ago or on thurs/fri ? I would wait exactly a week and then send a friendly email asking her when you could hope to hear back.
Yeah, it was the beginning of the week.
I have always heard 24-48 hours works best, but then again I have never interviewed at a 'prestigious hedge fund
If this DE Shaw or Bridgewater, I would wait a couple more days. If not, just email the HR Rep.
at least a week. anything earlier is kinda annoying.

I say you wait a week and give the hr lady a call. I find calling is more efficient than emailing.
How and when to follow up with bankers? (Originally Posted: 11/14/2011)
I just got out of a bb speaker event 2 hours ago. it was very tight knit maybe like 20 kids and 3 bankers so i got a good rapport going on with all 3, got their business cards.
My question is how soon to follow up and what exactly to say other than "great talking to you yesterday" or whatever.
Thanks
Within 24 hours or they forget you. When I go meet candidates/do networking events, if I don't hear back within 24 hours I typically forget since the next days there's tons of work to be done.
24-48 hours is the limit. Better late than never, but by then, chances are you've slipped their mind.
Thanks guys. Should i just give a quick thanks, or should I suggest to set up a info-coffee-thing or whatever? I dont really have any burning questions at this time but I also don't want to be forgotten immediately after the email
interested in knowing too
protip: it would be great if some of you college clowns quit eyeing my gf's tits and focus on pitching your potential contribution to my firm, during private networking meetings.
When is it appropriate to follow up with HR in this case? (Originally Posted: 10/21/2015)
I had two interviews recently (one first round, one second round) at two of the elite boutiques in London.
For one of them (Interview last Friday, second round) HR told me that the gap between the second round and the AC is usually larger and I am not quite sure if they are conducting all the second rounds first before they are inviting people to the AC. Should I still follow up if I don't hear anything in the next two days?
For the other one where I interviewed 2 days ago I was told that there might be an AC this Friday and another one next week. Should I follow up now or better wait?
I would just send them an email now. They can't ding you for following up as they really have no say in this point of the process.
Actually one of the interviews was conducted by a recruiting agency, so I think they have a say since they decide who is being sent to the actual AC?
As for HR: The second round was conducted by HR + a case study - so again, I believe it is HR who decides about the next stage since I haven't interviewed with anyone from the team?
Or what do you mean they have no say in this stage?
Send the email. plenty do it. you wont be any different.
How long do you have to keep "following up" to phone calls? (Originally Posted: 05/03/2016)
As a prospective banking recruit I have faithfully and happily followed all the advice given to me about networking professionally and politely with follow-up emails after informational interviews. But, how long do I keep this up? If I know someone fairly well, have met them in person and have talked to them on the phone several times... do I STILL have to send an email thanking them for the call every time I give them a ring? What is the appropriate time to transition to a normal communicative relationship?
I would send them a thank you email after the first phone call. After that, simply thank them while on the phone.
When to follow up after a conference? (Originally Posted: 02/08/2014)
I went to a women's conference on Friday, and spoke with one-on-one and got business cards from a few campus recruiters and VPs at BBs. When would be the appropriate time to follow up to maintain this relationship? Should I send a "thank you for your time/advice and I hope to remain connected through the recruitment season" email today? Should I wait a week or two? I know some of these banks have boot campus in the spring and I want to remain on their radar for the program and have a meeting with these contacts before applying.
Follow up the next business day. So, you should send the follow-up on Monday and mention that it was nice meeting them at the event last week, etc. Make sure you keep in touch periodically if you plan to apply in the future.
yeah next business day is fine. don't over think it. don't be too formal either

I cold emailed an alumnus last Monday and he emailed me back on Thursday afternoon saying that he'd be open for a coffee chat. I email him back the same day (last Thursday night) asking him what time on Wednesday he'd have time to meet. I was hoping that he would email me back to finalize the time but he never responded. It's already Monday with no response and we were tentatively scheduled to meet this upcoming Wednesday but no time confirmation. What's the best approach to follow up?
this kind of shit happens all the time. these guys are busy/don't give a shit about you you're better off waiting imo, cause either one of four things can happen in the short run
you maximize your overall welfare by doing nothing
keep in mind short run outcomes don't matter, cause you can always just contact him in a few weeks consequence free
Wait at least one week, two if he is higher up.
Anecdotally, I find that sending emails very early Monday (6-7am) maximizes my chance for an immediate response. You can schedule emails in outlook to be sent at a specific time, or just have them drafted and send them out early in the day.
Well, still no response. He said he was free middle of this week so I was hoping to get the time confirmation. Better to continue to wait and email him next week?
