Ran out of music to listen to. Does anyone have reccomendations?

I need some new music to listen to.... Pretty much listen to anything but country. I prefer listening to alternative rock and rap, but would enjoy some EDM recommendations and even stuff for the piano (for studying/ relaxing).

  • Some of my favorite albums include Kanye West's College Dropout, and Graduation, Led Zeppelin's Mothership, Nirvana's Nevermind, Linkin Park's Meteora, anything Red Hot Chili Peppers.

  • I would appreciate any workout anthems that sound like "Eye of the Tiger", "Till I Collapse", or "In da Club"

  • As far as piano music, I'm a Chopin, Debussy, Erik Satie guy.

  • Slipknot floats my boat from time to time.

  • Trying to get into jazz but all I heard that I enjoyed was John Coltane's After the Rain. Just overall don't know much about this genre.

Would appreciate it if you guys helped me out with this. What's usually on repeat for you monkeys?

Can't find the link right now but there is a thread on here named something along the lines of top albums to listen to before you die. Used some recommendations from that thread and expanded my taste in music.

Best Response

Fleetwood Mac, Van Halen, Talking Heads, Bonobo, Flume, Meek Mill (Blue Notes is my current motivational song), Bare Naked Ladies (soley the Rock Spectacle album), Motel Radio, Bully.

I really like live albums so I listen to performances more often than studio albums. There's normally a lot more heart and soul in live shows than recorded ones, also a lot of bands write their songs in the studio so when a track gets laid down it might have only been played a few dozen times but on the road bands really hone their songs and the songs definitely come alive.

You can't beat a Lindsey Buckingham guitar solo on any of Fleetwood Mac's live albums, and that's coming from someone who worships Van Halen and has seen them perform 3 times.

The new Vince Staples (rap) album is amazing. Some absolute bangers and its only like 40 minutes long. Some good work out anthems. Also, Get Rich or Die Tryin by 50 is a classic, doesn't mater if you're Greenwich or Camden.

Kind of Blue by Miles Davis is great too if you want to try jazz out again.

Josh Ritter has a lot of really cool acoustic albums. Animal Years is a great album, has somewhat of a modern day Bob Dylan feel.

How is Lady Gaga 'metal?' Either way a diverse list.

Only music I can really focus with is somewhat monotonous trance/house without vocals.

But ...And Justice for All is my favorite album, props to the mention above. Best metal album ever.

Thank you Monkeys, I'm loving the diversity of the list so far. Its gonna be a long night so please keep em coming.

Mat Zo is solid... I prefer Zedd's remix of Alive to his, but they are both legit.

OP you would need to provide more info on what type of music you are interested in, but if you just check out the EDC lineups and the lineups for Governor's Ball and Electric Zoo, you should be able to find some good options. Also check out music blogs like thissongissick and earmilk

Lorde - The Love Club EP

"For I am a sinner in the hands of an angry God. Bloody Mary full of vodka, blessed are you among cocktails. Pray for me now and at the hour of my death, which I hope is soon. Amen."

If you're into metal Children of Bodom's new album just came out a few days ago (in Japan, US on 11th). I've been jamming to it pretty hard the past week, it's extremely close to their old stuff.

The Hood Internet released a new mixtape a few weeks ago. It's free.

They're mash up DJs and find great examples of rap, then put a different beat on it. Usually find a few gems in their mixtapes.

Hardwell & Dyro feat. Bright Lights -- Never Say Goodbye

Also, this song came out in April (in the US, at least), but I still love it...Easy by Mat Zo & Porter Robinson. Has an old-school Daft Punk feel to it.

Anyone ever listen to any Texas Country? Turnpike Troubadours, Randy Rogers Band, Robert Earl Keen, Damn Quails and Charlie Robison are all great. As someone mentioned, the new J. Cole album is pretty solid, much better production and song variety than his other album I thought. If you like more chill electro stuff check out Supervision and Emancipator, both kind of like Pretty Lights (Supervision is signed to PL I believe).

Subscribe to mrsuicidesheep on YouTube or soundcloud. Great songs from underrated artists. My favorite is Jane and Echos but honestly, you can't just not love every single song he posts.

There's this new singer Adele. She is good.

"For I am a sinner in the hands of an angry God. Bloody Mary full of vodka, blessed are you among cocktails. Pray for me now and at the hour of my death, which I hope is soon. Amen."

Thanks for the recs, but have most of them anyway. Like I said, I'll give anything a listen but mostly into acts like Metallica, Pumpkins, the Cure, the XX, etc. But I wouldnt restrict myself, so much variety. Like a little house here and there. Kinda into post-rock right now too - Explosions in the Sky, etc.

Might give Genius a whirl too. Keep 'em coming though.

Word, just some songs I've been hearing on the gasp radio lately

If you're into house music, there's some good stuff that just hit Beatport recently.

Afrojack & Shermanology -- Can't Stop Me EDX & Nadia Ali -- This is Your Life Dirty South & Thomas Gold feat. Kate Elsworth -- Eyes Wide Open

And a bunch of others, but that's just off the top of my head for now.

I like to listen to the soundtracks of chick flicks: Sex and the City, Confessions of a Shopaholic, 13 Going on 30, etc. They are really stupid, but fast paced, so I listen to those when I need motivation. When I am listening to something just to enjoy it, I listen to Joss Stone, B.B. King, Eric Clapton (the bluesy stuff), Billie Holiday, Macy Gray, Nina Simone, Amy Winehouse, stuff like that.
