Ran out of music to listen to. Does anyone have reccomendations?
I need some new music to listen to.... Pretty much listen to anything but country. I prefer listening to alternative rock and rap, but would enjoy some EDM recommendations and even stuff for the piano (for studying/ relaxing).
-
Some of my favorite albums include Kanye West's College Dropout, and Graduation, Led Zeppelin's Mothership, Nirvana's Nevermind, Linkin Park's Meteora, anything Red Hot Chili Peppers.
-
I would appreciate any workout anthems that sound like "Eye of the Tiger", "Till I Collapse", or "In da Club"
-
As far as piano music, I'm a Chopin, Debussy, Erik Satie guy.
-
Slipknot floats my boat from time to time.
-
Trying to get into jazz but all I heard that I enjoyed was John Coltane's After the Rain. Just overall don't know much about this genre.
Would appreciate it if you guys helped me out with this. What's usually on repeat for you monkeys?
Can't find the link right now but there is a thread on here named something along the lines of top albums to listen to before you die. Used some recommendations from that thread and expanded my taste in music.
I like the Chainsmokers a lot.
Awaken, my love!
So good

Dude you have to give more color on what artists you mostly listen to and what albums you've already listened to before anyone can answer this question properly
of course not, random suggestions only
Steel Pulse
new j cole dropping soon
also chance the rapper
also new kings of leon
new weezer is meh but worth a try
joywave is tight as well
Fleetwood Mac, Van Halen, Talking Heads, Bonobo, Flume, Meek Mill (Blue Notes is my current motivational song), Bare Naked Ladies (soley the Rock Spectacle album), Motel Radio, Bully.
I really like live albums so I listen to performances more often than studio albums. There's normally a lot more heart and soul in live shows than recorded ones, also a lot of bands write their songs in the studio so when a track gets laid down it might have only been played a few dozen times but on the road bands really hone their songs and the songs definitely come alive.
You can't beat a Lindsey Buckingham guitar solo on any of Fleetwood Mac's live albums, and that's coming from someone who worships Van Halen and has seen them perform 3 times.
Fleetwood Mac is life. Their early stuff, before Stevie Nicks joined, is stuff I also enjoy. Bermuda Triangle etc.
Yes, their early stuff is great. Much more Bluesy, I love Albatross. Its amazing when you listen their old stuff, many of their songs like Black Magic Woman people have no idea that they wrote it. You can really tell where John Mayer gets a lot of his live performance influences...
Also, Buckingham Nicks is really great as well.
The new Vince Staples (rap) album is amazing. Some absolute bangers and its only like 40 minutes long. Some good work out anthems. Also, Get Rich or Die Tryin by 50 is a classic, doesn't mater if you're Greenwich or Camden.
Kind of Blue by Miles Davis is great too if you want to try jazz out again.
Josh Ritter has a lot of really cool acoustic albums. Animal Years is a great album, has somewhat of a modern day Bob Dylan feel.
Spreadsheet Music (Originally Posted: 11/16/2012)
I know every monkey on here has those days where you are stuck building long uncomplicated spreadsheets. I'm talking about those spreadsheets that you could build with your eyes closed and 1 arm tied behind your back. To keep it interesting I listen to music throughout the process of writing macros, building pivot table after pivot table and vlookup for everything on the planet.
Do you guys listen to music while doing it? If so, what music? Any good 8 track playlists? I've almost exhausted my favorite playlists.

Trance
I've been listen to the same 5 Neil Young songs all day. 30 pages of VBA later, it's almost time to get drunk.
Metal all day long. My perfect 8-track playlist goes something like this:
Amon Amarth - Doom Over Dead Man Behemoth - As Above So Below Trivium - A Grey So Dark Behemoth - Slaves Shall Serve Lady Gaga - Judas Metallica - Seek and Destroy Trivium - The Deceived Owl City - Alligator Sky
Nice. I like listening to albums myself. Been listening to the following :

ASOT TATW=now group therapy
Some live sets of trance
check out http://fratmusic.com/ for some playlists
Only music I can really focus with is somewhat monotonous trance/house without vocals.
But ...And Justice for All is my favorite album, props to the mention above. Best metal album ever.
Thank you Monkeys, I'm loving the diversity of the list so far. Its gonna be a long night so please keep em coming.
Big Pimpin' - Jay-Z Big Poppa - Notorious B.I.G. Damn It Feels Good to Be A Gangsta -Geto Boys It Was A Good Day - Ice Cube The Way It Is - Tupac Turn On The Lights - Future
You gotsta keep it gangsta.

New music for Summer 2013 (Originally Posted: 06/07/2013)
Suggestions on some good new artists or songs you've recently discovered for the summer?
Edit: EDM and country are my main choices but always interested in new stuff
For EDM i'd go with Martin Garrix, Tiesto or David Guetta. People like Steve Aoki but I think it's more for his performance qualities than his actual sets.
alive--mat zo remix https://soundcloud.com/empireofthesunsound/alivematzoremix
Mat Zo is solid... I prefer Zedd's remix of Alive to his, but they are both legit.
OP you would need to provide more info on what type of music you are interested in, but if you just check out the EDC lineups and the lineups for Governor's Ball and Electric Zoo, you should be able to find some good options. Also check out music blogs like thissongissick and earmilk
Lorde - The Love Club EP
Chance the Rapper- Cocoa Butter Kisses if you you're looking for some good rap
Also J cole - Born Sinner just leaked, good album.
Photograph - Nickelback
Technically not new, but good mashups:

If you're into metal Children of Bodom's new album just came out a few days ago (in Japan, US on 11th). I've been jamming to it pretty hard the past week, it's extremely close to their old stuff.
I woke up in a new Bugatti - Ace Hood
or
Bitches and Bottles - DJ Khaled
The Hood Internet released a new mixtape a few weeks ago. It's free.
They're mash up DJs and find great examples of rap, then put a different beat on it. Usually find a few gems in their mixtapes.
kanye is coming out with a new album june 18 as well as a few other popular rappers
Titus Jones -- http://www.mixcloud.com/titusjones/?utm_source=widget&utm_medium=web&ut…
Hardwell & Dyro feat. Bright Lights -- Never Say Goodbye
Also, this song came out in April (in the US, at least), but I still love it...Easy by Mat Zo & Porter Robinson. Has an old-school Daft Punk feel to it.
ilan Bluestone & Jerome Isma-Ae - Under My Skin
Not a regular trance listener, but it's been on repeat
great track
thekollection.com
Anyone ever listen to any Texas Country? Turnpike Troubadours, Randy Rogers Band, Robert Earl Keen, Damn Quails and Charlie Robison are all great. As someone mentioned, the new J. Cole album is pretty solid, much better production and song variety than his other album I thought. If you like more chill electro stuff check out Supervision and Emancipator, both kind of like Pretty Lights (Supervision is signed to PL I believe).
Can't go past the new Daft Punk album.
Playlist/Music Suggestions (Originally Posted: 06/06/2017)
Hey, I was wondering if you guys have any playlist or music suggestions that are good to listen to when powering through financial modeling? Gotta get through it somehow lol
Just go over and take a look at the "Albums to listen to before you die" thread. It's a gold mine. I'll bump it now. You're welcome.
I just saw it and HendrixBanker recommended it as well. Thanks!
Bump!
Spotify's Swagger playlist is a good one if you like a sound that's similar to The Black Keys.
Russia Privjet - Basshunter

Alright... running low on music. Anyone have any suggestions for Spotify or Pandora? Something that helps you focus?
Subscribe to mrsuicidesheep on YouTube or soundcloud. Great songs from underrated artists. My favorite is Jane and Echos but honestly, you can't just not love every single song he posts.
Jason Deruler(echo in the background with audiotune)
eric church, brandon flowers, rise against, taylor swift are my usual go-to
Big fan of soundtracks, try Gladiator, Matrix, and Inception. Tweaking spreasheets and updating powerpoints becomes much more epic.
Get on Hypem.com great for dubstep and house when you're cranking
thissongissick.com

Freddie Gibbs or Big K.R.I.T
Agreed, soundtracks are perfect. Words get me distracted a lot of times.
Let the Kenny Chesney flowww
Good vibes playlist on Spotify is amazing if you like electronic/EDM
New music anyone? (Originally Posted: 02/13/2012)
I've officially exhausted all of the music I have and desperately need some new stuff.
Anyone with any recommendations? Will give anything a listen once.
Depends what you are looking for... I listen to house mostly when I'm at work. Three podcasts that I play the hell out of are Drumcode, In Stereo Dj Chus, and DJ Dan In Stereo
Noah and the Whale, The naked and famous, Ellen Alien, Paul Kalkbrenner, Miike Snow
new burial EP is sick
The XX
WSO dudes apparently have good taste in music^.
What genres do you like most, OP?
I heard Metallica's Black Album is good.
There's this new singer Adele. She is good.
Thanks for the recs, but have most of them anyway. Like I said, I'll give anything a listen but mostly into acts like Metallica, Pumpkins, the Cure, the XX, etc. But I wouldnt restrict myself, so much variety. Like a little house here and there. Kinda into post-rock right now too - Explosions in the Sky, etc.
Might give Genius a whirl too. Keep 'em coming though.

Nice find on the first one. I had heard it on the radio before but it didnt get much traction in London. Thanks. Listened to the rest of the album and it wasnt too good.
Word, just some songs I've been hearing on the gasp radio lately
Haha. I'll listen to the radio when someone like Bruno Mars hasnt been played to death.
Sit back and relax - Pretty Lights: We Must Go On - http://hypem.com/#!/track/1hmp0/Pretty+Lights+-+We+Must+Go+On
Bruno Mars has got to be one of the most annoying artistes on the radio. His songs are either really whiny or incredibly emasculating.
If you're into house music, there's some good stuff that just hit Beatport recently.
Afrojack & Shermanology -- Can't Stop Me EDX & Nadia Ali -- This is Your Life Dirty South & Thomas Gold feat. Kate Elsworth -- Eyes Wide Open
And a bunch of others, but that's just off the top of my head for now.
Ratatat, LCD Soundsystem, Dr. Dog, STS9.
Hmm I like a lot of trippy stuff.
I like to listen to the soundtracks of chick flicks: Sex and the City, Confessions of a Shopaholic, 13 Going on 30, etc. They are really stupid, but fast paced, so I listen to those when I need motivation. When I am listening to something just to enjoy it, I listen to Joss Stone, B.B. King, Eric Clapton (the bluesy stuff), Billie Holiday, Macy Gray, Nina Simone, Amy Winehouse, stuff like that.
