and especially if it's GS/MS...you do SEO, you might end up working for DB (although after the government's done with the Americans, maybe that's not such a bad thing)
SEO is a great program for most but if you've got the chance already go BB. Simply because I feel that unnecessarily peers have a hate for SEO kids and you have to work twice as hard for the same respect. Might as well prove you could've done without the program
It's a diversity placement program for Asians, Blacks, Hispanics & Natives and you can apply for various branches - IBD, S&T, IMD, Philanthropy, Law. They interview you and if they take you they place you with a partner bank on the street.
I've heard if you're accepted to SEO and take a normal bank offer, they can still fit you into the program. So while you aren't getting an offer through them, you can still access the network. Talk to them about it.
I don't understand why SEO doesn't get respect. Given that affirmative action exists already, why wouldn't you want an additional selection process for the minorities?
Wouldn't you rather have a smart one, or at least a higher chance of getting a smart one, than one thrown in without preparation? If they're going to have an advantage getting in, I'd want to make to make sure they deserve it. SEO does a pretty good job of that.

I did SEO and you can definitely still gain the networking advantage (which is a great deal especially in this market) without having to be labeled as "officially" in the program. I think you should go straight BB but still stay connected with them, explaining that you really like what they stand for but cant commit to all the other requirements..etc etc. Overall it was an amazing experience with lots of great events set up to help you get even further in this market. The program does get a really bad rap and could potentially influence your final offer so me advice, just stay with your BB offer but get that SEO network.

There's no reason why a separate selection process for minorities would make the quality of those candidates higher. It probably makes them lower, since they don't have to compete with the general pool.
Not to put down SEO, though...I have friends trying to break into banking via SEO, and they're all very bright and hard-working kids. Sounds like a good program, but best to enter via your own merit and absolutely no other consideration. Although I'm sure SEO does pick outstanding candidates, if you read through the threads on WSO, you'll see how perception of program participants can create more of a liability than an opportunity.

What is SEO?

Would you rather lead the majors in homeruns with or without steroids? Take the straight BB route.

Take the straight BB offer.
SEO has a stigma.
