Strange Background Check

Hey WSO,

I got an offer from a large bank in Canada. The offer is entirely contingent upon the completion of a back ground check. For the most part, this check has been pretty straightforward; however, I have been asked to submit my Notice of Assessment (essentially a tax receipt from the CRA). Also, this check has taken close to 3 weeks, something I did not anticipate.

Does anyone have any experience with these checks? Why would they ask for a NOA from a university student?

Thank you.
