Summer Analyst: Powerpoint Skills Required

About to start as a summer analyst.
I have virtually no experience using powerpoint.
About to take the Microsoft Office tutorial offered for it.

Should I be paranoid about this and spend the next few days memorizing every powerpoint shortcut, or is the fact that I don't have past experience with it really not that big a deal?

Not a big deal, you're expected to learn on the job. Coming in with good PPT skills just flattens the learning curve a bit and can help you hit the ground running. You'll learn as you go along.

My tips:

I'm personally much more of a hybrid (mouse and keyboard) user with PPT vs Excel where I almost exclusively use the keyboard. There are definitely things in PPT that are easier with the mouse imo Always work with the gridlines and guides on Alignment shortcuts are probably my favorites (Alt H G A ...) learn those quickly Your bank will have templates and specific formatting. But you should become familiar with how Slide Master works in case you need to edit anything When you paste Excel tables in as a link, right click then refresh to get higher quality Do not hit refresh links when first opening a PPT file. Update links individually as needed Learn how to edit word spacing properly Learn how to use the Ruler properly for indenting text and bullets

All I can think of atm. If you have any specific questions feel free to let me know and I'll be happy to help. Best of luck!
