Take Equity or Not
I brought a very interesting and lucrative opportunity for our firm to JV with a start-up without our firm having to put up any cash. Should I ask for equity? I am a VP and I brought the connection to the group. The start-up initially asked if I wanted to personally have the entire 50% stake to help them, but I have decided to include our firm given my deep involvement in the company and my close relationship with the founder. Any advice would be great.
Yes, seems like a reasonable ask
Do you receive carry in your fund deals? Is this deal being done outside of any committed funds?
Actually, we are a sell side M&A/Project Finance shop, but this opportunity just came to us so we structured it so that we would take equity. We don't have a proper fund structure with policies like most PE shops (although we plan to create one).
Thanks gametimehoops!
