Taking a semester off for an extra summer?
Hey guys,
Quick Bio:
- International student from East Asia (F-1 Visa status)
- Currently sophomore at a non-target top20 LAC
- Past Experience: Treasury at Microfinance Non-Profit, Biz Dev at TMT industry back home
- Goal: Get a job in the US after undergrad
Current Status:
After this semester ends, I will be taking two years off from school to do a mandatory military service for my country.
I will be discharged during summer 2016 and go back to school for Fall 2016 semester as a junior.
Question:
Would be acceptable for me to take off a semester and do an off-cycle internship?
In that case, I will be coming back to school for Spring 2017 (Graduate in Dec 2018), instead of Fall 2016. I want to leverage the extra summer to an internship in the US with FT offer.
Any opinion will be helpful. Thanks
Delaying graduation for off-cycle internships is common in Singapore.
It's pretty common in my country as well, but I wonder how that would look like to recruiters in the US.
Sounds like a Korean dude. I also took an year off for my off-cycle internship. I don't think the recruiters would be harsh about taking a semester off for internship
