What's the best way to get into Portfolio Management

I'm currently a junior and I know I ultimately want to work in portfolio management and am wondering the best way to break in. Should I try to land an IB SA position and try to get a FT offer and go from there?

I also might have the opportunity to intern over the summer at a reputable AM firm with an equity fund team who manages around 10-15 billion. This however isn't in New York, but another major city. And a full time offer could be hard to come by (is it even possible)? If i can, should I try this route and really try to impress the team to get an offer or maybe even do this internship and get another role within the firm and try to lateral later?

Would appreciate the help guys.

I would go with the AM firm if that's what you want to do. Even if the FT offer doesn't come, you have experience to make you more attractive to other firms. IB SA position will do you no good because you still don't necessarily get the offer. Go where you want to be. Everything else falls into place.
