Tax consulting
I have been working in tax consulting for the last two years. I was hired as a project associate at a specialty services tax firm, which means I would be assisting associates, senior associates, and associate directors. It has been 2 years, and I have not been promoted to associate, though I have received raises and studies. I feel that it is time for a change and have been actively job searching for the past 7 months, but haven't really found anything. What other consulting work could I do? I tried searching on indeed.com, but it appears that a lot of firms require 5-10 years of experience and certain degrees. I have a BS in Psychology. I enjoy consulting for the most part and would like to try different industries, such as healthcare and technology. Thanks!
How did you become a tax consultant with a BS in Psychology? Maybe you should do one of those 1 year Masters in Accounting programs, concentrate in Taxation, then you can work at a Big 4 or something...
The senior associates and directors train the project associates, then gradually give them studies to evaluate their performance. Everyone that works on the Implementation side of the company is referred to as a consultant. Thanks for your insight, I'll definitely consider it....
Hi krilysa, I think Toblerone was referring to how you got into tax consulting with a psychology degree. I'm interested in hearing how you made that transition, too. Given, my undergrad was history, political science, and criminal justice, so totally unrelated to anything consulting oriented. I'm currently getting my MBA and Master's in Project Management to try and make myself more appealing, so we are somewhat in the same boat
I found the job on Craigslist. I actually had applied for a Human Resources Assistant position at the firm I work at. During the initial interview, however, the HR Director said they were looking for someone with a little more HR experience (I had very little), and would I be interested in the Project Associate position? Since I was anxious to get out of my current job (retail management), I said I was very interested. I then had a second interview, and was hired on right after. I definitely want to go back to school at some point and get a Master's in HR Management or Development.
