Tech sales

Hi WSO,

I am a European undergraduate who is looking to obtain a better understanding of all possible careers he may chose. Thanks to this website I've gained a clear understanding of the different role and types of companies available in Finance and I've decided that it's not for me.
I am looking more and more to a career in tech.

What I find the more interesting is their sales graduate/development programs but I haven't heard much about people doing those. I don't have any alumni in my school at Oracle/Microsoft/IBM in sales positions. Hence I am asking here if there is people kind enough to answer some of my questions.

My best shot is to get into a sales graduate program out of college. Is there one program that is better than another ? Career Wise ? Reputation Wise ?
What do you learn in those programs exactly ?

By looking at salesforce website for example I see that there is opportunies in Account Management, Sales development inbound/outbound, sales engineering. Does someone know what each job really is and can cut me through the bullshit ? Is one position better than another ? I am looking for a position where I would be able to negotiate a lot because that is what interest me the most.

Does a sales position can lead to a position in management/ corporate strategy down the road (in say 9 or 10 years). What are the other opportunities available ?

How much $ can you really expect to make in a sales ? In your first year, after 3-5 years and in 10years for example. Does it depends on your exact position ? if you're in Account Management or inbond/outbound sales ? Because I have seen huge numbers written on this website (400k for a sales guy in Oracle in London,...) that doesn't add up with the information I gather from glassdoor for example.

Thanks for reading me,
