Here's my over-thought, petty, trivial question for you all: what do I really want to say in a brief thank-you email to the trader at a small hedge fund (<10 employees) that I interviewed with last week?
I'm inclined to emphasize my heavy interest in the opportunity and would like to mention what I will be doing to better prepare for the role, but don't want to get too far ahead of myself.
Obviously I'm making a big deal out of this, but I've also never interviewed for a job I've wanted this badly before.
Thanks

I personally never sent thank
I personally never sent thank you e-mails when I interviewed. If you want to send one, make sure it's not some generic garbage - it's considered too bankerish/bureaucratic and we hate it. If anything, simply reiterate your interest/show them you're hungry/tell them how badly you want the job. Hell, say you'd accept an offer on the spot.

Need to emphasize that you
Need to emphasize that you should NOT be too formal (unless they came off that way)

I hate getting thank you
I hate getting thank you e-mails for the exact reason DMMSY just said, they're bankerish and annoying. If you're gonna send one at all be interesting, express your interest, and maybe make me laugh. Don't cross the line though because I'm sure other people aren't as sick and twisted as I am.

I don't know how to post this as a picture. If anyone could help me out, that'd be great.
Thanks for the insight guys.

I agree, thank-you emails can be so mundane and generic, so the goal here is to stand out. I'll give it some more thought and if I have anything valuable to point out, I will put it into words.
@ DontMakeMeShortYou - honestly, I would love to tell this guy that I'd accept an offer with a salary cut if they would extend one. Unfortunately that would sound incredibly desperate, but that's really how tremendous an opportunity this is, and how good of a fit I think the firm is for me.
I always thought of emails
I always thought of emails after interviewing similar to showering once a day. I thought it was the norm, but interesting light you guys shed here on the thank you emails. They definitely have the vibe you guys mention, but I always thought email better than nothing

I sent a 4-sentence thank you
I sent a 4-sentence thank you email this morning, but it had no correlation to the rejection I received from the firm. Apparently the trader emailed the recruiter over the weekend to let him know he was going to look for someone with more experience.
Oh well, gotta keep on moving along!
