Thoughts on FT S&T Recruiting
Hi WSO, I have previously interned in S&T and I am interning this summer in IB (both at different BB's) so that I can get exposure to both sides before making a final decision. My question is should I decide that S&T (particularly trading) is for me, what do the prospects for full time recruiting in S&T (particularly trading) roles look like. Is it at all possible? Since most banks give desk specific FT offers to interns, do you have to only network with people from the specific desks you are interested in? Thanks guys!
interning on a S&T desk is really just a 2 month long interview for a job on THAT desk. If you had a rotational internship..then you were interviewing on EVERY desk that you interacted with.
Desks choose who they want. If you didn't spend quality time with a desk...that means you didn't interview for a job on that desk,
to clarify the question, is it possible to recruit full time at a (different) BB trading shop for full time if you have previous BB experience both in IB and S&T. Everyone talks about how hard it is to recruit full time for IB, my question is how feasible is S&T FT recruiting
I went through the FT recruiting process this past fall for S&T and it is quite difficult, but not impossible. Make sure to network prior to the summer. I manged to get a couple interviews at BBs and I networked after the summer ended, so you should be able to get more than me if you do a good job at networking.
possible? sure. but your highest probability of an offer for S&T is the same firm/group you had a summer S&T internship (assuming you did well and they liked you).
S&T Recruiting Timeline (Originally Posted: 09/19/2016)
Hi everyone,
After reading some of the old posts, I saw that many banks still hold first round interviews for summer analysts as late as January. For some reason, I was under the impression that most offers are handed out at the end of the fall semester.
I am also applying to a lot of backup internships just in case my run for the banks don't pan out. My problem is that a lot of the non-banking firms conclude their internship recruiting in the fall. How am I going to use them as back up if I might not even hear from the banks until January?
And it probably doesn't help that I go to UT-Austin, which is not really a target school for S&T (not McCombs either, math + CS major).
Anyone else been in this position before? How can I get into the early rounds of interviews?
And also where can I find a concrete timeline on the S&T recruiting process? (Everyone I email just direct me to the recruiter/HR. And the recruiters/HR people either never reply to my emails or are awfully vague)
I'm in the exact same situation. I go to an on-par flagship state school, have not found any answers.
I wonder if responses to the question are either extremely elusive or it's one of those "You didn't get something yet? You're not gonna get something. I'm not even gonna type out a response." sort of thing.
(Sorry if that's morbid. I'm excessively cynical and frustrated at the moment.)

Anyone know what FT recruiting is like for S&T at MS & GS? Are positions non-existent for FT, and they just fill everything from their summers?
Pretty much - I think there were a few positions open for FT but those were ultra-competitive and probably open only to those that interned at other banks but didn't receive offers.

Hi WSO:
I'm currently interning at a prop shop. I want to apply to full-time sales & trading at banks in the fall, and have some good contacts. My question is, do banks actually hire? I hear mostly banks just hire from their interns, so they might not hire at all for full time from other firms.
Can someone shed some light? Really appreciate it..
Yes. You have a better chance with contacts.
Duplicate post
It's possible, but it will be infinitely better if you network or already have a contact that could help. If anything, headcount is going down on S&T desks at BBs as revenues for the sell side really haven't come back yet, and it looks more like they won't at all. Banks are doing more with less as they are trying everything to be more profitable. Most banks will likely fill their needs through their SA classes this summer, but there's always a chance a spot will open up. Be aware that even when you see postings online on a bank's campus recruiting site, it is often a resume drop and they do not actually have an open position. The last two years have been extremely tough for S&T recruiting, and given the market conditions that is unlikely to change. You should focus on meeting as many people as you can and get your name out there.
2016 Recruiting for Sales and Trading (Originally Posted: 12/12/2016)
Hello everyone, first time here. I am currently looking to join a firm in Sales and Trading. Unfortunately, I was not recruited for any of the Bulge Bracket Banks and would like to know if there are any other banks who are still hiring. I know I should be looking for boutiques but is there a directory of some sort with emails or phone numbers I can use to contact them. Any help will be appreciated.
