Thoughts on how this final round went? Will the MD override everyone?
I had a final interview where most of it was technicals. I interviewed with 3 VPs and 1 MD.
I think the first 3 interviews with the VPs went great, but I completely botched the final interview with the MD. I never thought an MD would ask technical questions. My brain was tired after 3 prior back to back technicals and I looked pretty idiotic when he asked a typical "how does this X action flow through all the three statements" that I couldn't answer. He also asked other technicals that I'm not that familiar with as accounting isn't my strong suit.
If 3 VPs give a Yes vote, but the MD is certainly a No, what is the likely outcome?
I hate to say it but the MD has a pretty high chance of overriding what the VP's say. At the end of the day, the MD is their superior and the VP's still have to worry about the working dynamic of the office in terms of disagreement. Unless you were an absolute allstar to the point where the VP's will fight tenaciously for you, the MD might unfortunately sink you.
(This happened to me at a BB super day. I killed the previous interviews but rubbed the MD the wrong way as coming off too "salesy". Although such a tiny aspect of my overall impression at the firm, it was enough to sink my chances since it came from an MD)
Honestly, it depends on the MD. He might be a cool dude who will go with what his group says, or he might be a vindictive dick. Who knows. You'll find out soon enough and there's nothing you can do at this point anyways.
