Internship Advice - The same internship two summers in a row
Question bros: How is it viewed by employers if youve held the same internship two summers in a row? Im wondering from a general employers view (not necessarily just Ibankers). I spent a spring semester abroad and only had 7 weeks to work so I took the same position with the same F100 company when I got back since all other employers required 10-12 weeks. I appreciate the advice, cheers.
Im just wondering whether employers view it negatively to have the same internship on your resume.
My supervisor from an internship I had sophomore year basically encouraged me junior year to find an internship at another place the next summer. He just said that some people might view it as you being more committed to a firm for a full time position if you interned there more than once; more of a first impression type of thing on a resume. In the end, I think it really depends more on the role you have at a company; it's much more encouraging if you can show that you progressed in internship workload/responsibilities at the same company versus having the same role two summers in a row.
thanks man, im moving to one of their headquartered locations and will be working with another team, hopefully this will keep it diverse. I appreciate the help.
I don't think it is viewed negatively, it just means theres one less thing on your resume and one less opportunity to try to obtain a FT offer.
Thoughts on interning at the same bank vs. moving to a different one (Originally Posted: 07/22/2014)
Just wanted to see different opinions on sa'ing at the same bank for two summers in a row versus looking at different options
If you like the bank a lot and it's got a good reputation, stay. Perhaps consider moving to a better group in the same bank if you're concerned with exit ops. If you're not attached to the bank and think you can move to a better one, I can't see why you would stay.
Thanks for the advice. I wouldn't mind staying, however, I would rather move to a bigger bank if possible.
