Transitioning from Big 4 Modelling & Valuation to IB
Hi All,
I'm a senior consultant in a modelling/valuation practice at a Big 4 accounting firm. I'm looking to transition into an IB role, and was wondering if anyone has any advice on how to go about landing interviews? I'm an expat so I have a small network here in NY.
Thank you!!
I did the exact same move a few months ago, although I was an analyst right out of college for one of the big four valuation groups. Very doable - keep reaching out to people (cold email, friends that work in banking, make friends in banking etc...) People on here might make it seem like a hard switch, but as long as you put in the time and effort to recruit you can get in for sure. Also, it helps a lot that you are in the New York office, capitalize on that geography.
Timeline for when to jump from Big4 Valuation to IB (Originally Posted: 04/13/2016)
Hello friends,
I am looking for some quick advice.
I'll be starting full-time this summer with a Big4 firms Valuations group. I accepted this job with intent to eventually switch into IB, however I am not sure what a good timeline for this would be. The group does some pre-deal work such as PPA's and Fairness Opinions I believe.
How long would you recommend spending with the firm before making a switch, and on top of that, has anyone heard of a well-experienced person of this nature jumping right to associate? Any advice is appreciated.
Work in your valuations group for six months and then start looking. Make sure to reach out to alumni first. Indeed.com is a great place to look for job postings.
goal should be to move within your 1st year.
