Told You Were Second Choice

Just wondering what peoples general thoughts on this situation would be. After a final interview you follow up after a few weeks and are told that there is an offer out to someone but you are the second choice if they don't accept. This is for a lateral position, would you feel little angry about that?

Best Response

No. Anger is a useless emotion in this situation. Maybe disappointment. You have no idea why the other guy is the top choice: he could be more qualified with regard to work history, he could be smarter than you or he could be the retarded nephew of an important client's Chairman.

I don't know but I'm assuming you're talking about IB: if you get angry everytime you don't win a mandate in IB (or win a deal in PE) you'll have an ulcer and high blood pressure by the time you're 35. You shouldn't like it and you should take away and learn whatever you can from failure but a little angry accomplishes nothing.

That's not to say that you shouldn't occasionally reach over the the Dark Side and use your hate though.

i didnt mean angry in that sense and appreciate that i was at least given the honesty about the situation that most people arent given but would you consider second guessing accepting the position if you were given it
