How many of you wear loafers?
Thought this were mainly meant for older people, but as a SA, I would see other SAs and Analysts wearing them (usually Ferragamos or Gucci)
What do you think about them? They're pretty expensive... around $500

Wore Ferragamo loafers as an analyst - picked up another pair recently (also Ferragamo) - I'd say it's OK for analysts, but probably pushing it for SAs. Also the rest of your outfit has to match it - wearing $500 'gamo loafers with an ill-fitting shirt and a Timex watch just looks strange - to be clear, I'm not saying you need to go out and buy a Patek and get all your shirts custom, but you get my drift.
Did you generally only wear during spring and summer? How did Ferragamos handle the everyday commute outside and on the subway, etc.
based in SF - we don't have winter.
wtf are loafers
Only Allen Edmonds
Only second year analysts wear Gamo's or Gucci's since they've had their bonus. Regular first years will probably wear Cole Haan loafers.
I wear Cole Haan loafers...definitely didn't cost me 500 clams, and so comfy
Yea very similar
Nothing wrong with loafers... just depends on what you're wearing with them.
Loafers with shorts - not suits
Just make sure you wear them without socks. And make sure you take them off. And make sure you lean back. And make sure your boss walks by.
lmao
Something like these?

Can I just wear loafers? (Originally Posted: 04/14/2011)
I'm not really into Oxfords. Generally, feel like they're for old men. I wore loafers everyday (incl with suits) at my SA at a top MM firm this past summer and was hoping to do the same at my BB for FT.
Is this a massive no no or is it OK?
Something like these in black: http://www.dillards.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalo…
i prefer ferragamos
tods
Ya sure. I know you're coming from. Gotta love loafers. Just don't show up to work in sperrys :)
Depends on the bank/group. No one wants to be that guy who always looks like a scrub if your MD is anal about these things.
I wore loafers but always kept a pair of regular lace-ups under my desk... actually most of the time people in my group didn't wear shoes while working. But if your group is formal (but really, what group on the street is formal nowadays?), then I'd steer clear of loafers.
Same as the guy above, always loafers but have emergency oxfords in the office.
always have emergency shoes at the office regardless. but yea those look pretty good actually
doesnt really matter. i just recommend that your first few days on the floor pay attention to what shoes people wear (mostly 2nd years and above) and emulate that.
the loafers you showed above are fine
Loafers are the way to go, though it is smart to have some oxford available. The ones you showed are fine, but I prefer tassels or horsebits.
I am not scheduled to begin until the summer, however, just have a feeling that wearing Ferragamo and Gucci loafers as an analyst is akin to french cuffs – age and status inappropriate. And I say this as someone who loves horsebit loafers. Is my intuition wrong here? Realize the OP's loafers are not flashy at all BTW.
Totally. I would go gammos, tods or guccis though.....
Sure, you could probably wear beach shorts and a vest as well.
is it ok to put a penny in them?
I rarely wear socks in my loafers.
Too early for bit loafers? (Originally Posted: 08/13/2014)
I am starting out in audit in public accounting (NY metro area) as was wondering if it was too much for a first year associate to wear bit loafers. I know in accounting no one is probably going to look at my feet, but still I don't want to be noticed for the wrong reasons. Thanks!
Well, loafers are the new in thing my friend, I mean for casual wearing you cannot choose a better option, you can pick something that gives of a semi casual look and you can get away with wearing them even to some not so important formal dinners at least I do :) You should totally get yourself a pair.
i dont see a problem wearing them. i just ordered a pair of AE Verona IIs
Either no one cares or they like nice shoes and will like them.
Rock both the Gucci Horsebit loafer and AE Verona at my job
Verona's for $150 http://shoebank.com/FactorySecondInventory.php?STY=49600S&DIM=D&SIZE=090
Loafers for work? (Originally Posted: 07/05/2015)
Hi, I know this question might sound idiotic but I had to ask.
I'm an incoming 1st year analyst, and was wondering if loafers were acceptable to work? I've been googling a lot, and there was really no consensus on this one.
P.S. Furthermore, is leather sole a must? (e.g. I was thinking of something like Ferragamo Loafers with rubber sole (since it was one of the more common shoes from the company that I interned with).
I have a pair of gucci horse bit loafers that has worn well over the years...i am not big on "shoe bling" but I think they qualify as pretty classic. I would not however wear any loafers with a suit to a job in banking that is busness formal...loafers are casual shoes. Cole Haan is a good choice if you want to spend a bit less...shoot out to the outlets and you can get good pairs of Cole Haan very cheap and some have some good styling. Stay away from tassle loafers.
Why don't you wear your dress shoes at first, and see what the environment is like?
Always safer to shoot more formal/traditional and then drop down once you know the atmosphere
loafers are more than acceptable at investment banks. I would get a paid of oxfords as my first shoe but ferragamo loafers (rubber or leather sole) are a pretty common shoe at an investment bank
Thank you for the replies!!
