Top-10 MBA: Round 1 vs Round 2

Hey everyone, would like to get your insight on this topic. Since Round 1 deadlines are fast approaching, I'd like to get the consensus here on whether there is any noticeable difference (in terms of acceptance rate) for an applicant between applying to an elite MBA program in Round 1 vs Round 2.

I'll start first. I haven't yet applied (so no firsthand experience), but two of my buds applied Round 2 last year and got dinged from a number of programs (mostly w/out interview). One of them was a HYPS grad, 3.5+ GPA, brand name WE, URM who also got a low 700s GMAT, so had pretty solid stats overall - I was shocked this person got in almost nowhere (considering this person applied to 6+ schools).

I can't help but wonder whether or not applying Round 1 would have meant these buddies of mine would have ended up getting into a better MBA program? We'll never know, but just wanted to bring up a potentially interesting subject topic. What is everyone thinking on this topic? Would you apply Round 2 or wait until next year to apply Round 1? Why?

FWIW, I've checked out this link: http://poetsandquants.com/2015/12/19/how-acceptan…
