TFA M7 Chances and options

Currently coming to the end of my commitment and considering a few options as to which direction to take my career. I am a URM from a non target state school with a 3.77 gpa and 720 GMAT. I had leadership positions in college in student govt and president of debate. I held multiple leadership positions within my placement school and started an after school program.

The first option is to go to the Kennedy school through the tfa fellowship. I would be able to attend for free on the stipulation I stay in the public sector for 3 years following the program

The second would be to take a position at a second tier consulting firm think along the lines Deloitte S&O, LEK, Booz

Third would be to continue teaching or take a more senior role within TFA with the hope of applying to M7 two years later.

I graduated a year early so would be 28 end of first option, and 25 at the end of option 2 or 3. Which ever route I take I plan on attending a top tier MBA so my biggest questions are,

  1. Which positions me to get into the best school with the most aid?
  2. Will option 1 make me a late applicant or will it help cement my story for needing an MBA as a career shifter focusing on education consulting at MBB
  3. If leveraged correctly will the opportunities at Kennedy be worth the opportunity cost of entering bschool 3 years later than intended ( in all facets, career fulfillment, network, resume boosts, etc.)

There are other MPP programs tied to top MBA's you should also be looking at. I'm at Booth for example, a lot of folks come in through the Harris program as a joint degree student. Three years is a long time.

Also, why aren't you applying direct to business school now? Those consulting roles will be in the realm of possibility for you but certainly not set in stone. If you can get into school now, you get to apply at a post MBA level rather than take two years of pre-MBA pay.

Thanks for the feedback, I was interested in the kennedy school specifically for the TFA fellowship which wouldn't be offered through a joint degree, three years is quite a long time but if kennedy school prospects allow me to take on roles i would not be able to other wise (say local development in Argentina) I would be more inclined to take this route and in regards to applying now, I was under the assumption top mbas would want to see more than 2 years of work experience also seeing as I graduated early wouldnt 23 be a bit young for these schools?

If you'll be 24-25 at matriculation there is no harm in applying now to see how you stand.

If you want to work in local development in Argentina, is the MBA right right track for you?

Shoot for best school you can get into. Don't worry about the aid. If you are offered a full ride at a 20-30 school and are accepted at an MBA business schools ">M7 but have to pay full tuition (which you probably won't as TFA), take the MBA business schools ">M7. This is a no brainer decision if you're looking to start a career in finance, consulting, etc. I'd narrow down your mid term goals for after school.

Thanks for the response guys! Shorttheworld, can you explain your answer a bit? I'm not really interested in consulting prior to business school, so I'm not sure what you mean.
