Leveraged Finance pretty much anywhere at DB from my understanding is good.
LevFin, REGAL, Sponsors, Industrials
What is REGAL?
How about Healthcare / Consumer London? Heard they got pretty good dealflow there nowadays.
Any group which is more specific for London or NY office? or pretty much LevFin?
REGAL is real estate gaming and lodging
How about the M&A team? How are they doing? Or is most of the work done by the respective industry teams?
no serious modeling work is ever handled by industry teams. ahahahaha.
That's not true all the time. For DB I don't know which teams specifically do M&A in house but DB just isn't an M&A shop in general. Its M&A dealflow for strategic deals is low for a BB and even is regularly beaten by the likes of Evercore, Greenhill, Moelis, etc. When DB is on deals, they're usually there for the financing and there's gonna be a GS/MS or EB along as the lead advisor.
DB is strong in sponsors advisory because of their balance sheet though. Does a lot of sponsors related M&A. I don't know this first hand but the M&A doesn't have the best rep for culture and the top candidates tend to go to Sponsors/LevFin with Industrials and REGAL being the stronger coverage groups.
This is all NYC btw.
My thoughts (LevFin, REGAL, Sponsors, Industrials) were NYC only. No idea about London.
DB top groups in NY for PE are M & A, FS, Lev Fin with Industrials and REGAL being the top coverage groups.
NY top coverage: industrials & regll NY top product: levfin > m&a > sponsors
NY: LevFin, M&A, Sponsors (in that order) for coverage I'd say Industrials is strongest
Could anyone give some more insights especially for location London?
+SB waiting!

I recently accepted an SA offer at Deutsche Bank, and have built networks in a few groups. Which groups are considered best in terms of exit opportunities/experience/culture?
I heard the Janitorial Services industry group was pretty solid
Any real feedback?
In terms of deal experience and exit ops, notable groups include: - M&A - Lev Fin - Industrials - Healthcare - REGLL - Sponsors
All of the above groups have decent culture except for M&A.
DB is very active in the fixed income space, so I'd assume LevFin is a top group there
Literally a convo I had with a DB guy coming to America bout a week ago:
Me: "So what do you think, firmwide, the strongest groups are in classic product/industry groups? Not really interested in the capital market side though." DB guy: "Well, M&A is poor in America and has been leaking fees, relatively speaking to the competition, but I think the coverage groups in America may be on the upswing?" Me: "What particular coverage groups will do well, particularly if M&A activity is eh at the firm?" DB: "Oh, all of them, I think America is due for a huge growth period." Me: "How come?" DB: "Just because we haven't been there before." Me: "..."
So, yeah, pick M&A and go off personal clicking for your other prefs. Prob want to be networking to jump ship for FT afterwards in any case though
I would avoid M&A because culture there sucks. Top groups below reflect my view on deal flow / culture / buyside placement:
Agreed with Whiskey5, but I would put Lev Fin with Sponsors at #1.
Nope @whiskey5
No coverage group should be ahead of product at DB M&A culture sucks true Should be LevFin / M&A / FSG and FSG last just because its like a middle market
Why do you think FSG is like a middle market - I thought they work with large cap PE clients?
bump. would appreciate hearing your thoughts on why FSG is like a middle market.
Top groups at DB NY are M & A, FS, Lev Fin & Industrials. These groups get the best looks for PE/HF/VC.
I heard from my friend at DB say that there were several M&A group analysts who got offers from mega funds (KKR, etc) last year.
double post- deleted
What's wrong with the M&A culture? Heard that a few times...
bump
Hours, late notice, and general dissatisfaction (good relative dealflow because it's a hot market, but still doing/losing pitches to the bigger boys)
Bump - does anyone have any thoughts on the DB Financial Institutions Group?
FIG group is solid - overall a very social team that hangs out with each other often
Thanks. Do you have any idea as to what the leveraged finance group's hiring needs are for full time analysts - is the group full with returning summer interns? Also any thoughts on the REGLL team would be appreciated - I have heard analysts in that group work till 3am regularly.
The Financial Sponsors group is solid (best on street Credit Suisse + JP Morgan). Some however have told me that it's more of a relationship role as compared to a hands on modeling role. Regardless, it seems like it has great exit opportunities and it's one of the more in demand groups.
Leveraged Finance, hands down one of the best groups. It's taking more of a lead role in regards to FSG. Clients tend to like it when the group that is more actively involved with the debt side of things are the ones driving the deal.
Healthcare, TMT, Consumer are all great as well.. What your thoughts as of now? Feel free to PM me.
