Top London Asset Management Firms
Hi,
I am currently completing my undergrad studies and am interested in a career in Asset Management. I have read a lot about the top asset management firms in the US such as Wellington or Ruane, Cunniff, & Goldfarb which have a great culture and provide a better lifestyle than some of the larger firms like BlackRock and yet provide decent pay and good career advancement opportunities.
However, since I am based in the UK, I was wondering which Asset Management Firms are the best to work at in London from an all-round perspective (pay, culture, lifestyle etc.), similar to the above listed firms in the US.
Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

Not sure about the others, but Wellington has a London office that they constantly post positions for on their website.
Fidelity UK. The only large and privately owned AM out there. I'll let you think about what that means for their culture.
What about places like Schroders, Aberdeen, F&C and the like?
There are obviously larger AM's out there but Fidelity is the only privately owned one.
I'm told Aberdeen is quite similar in culture.
PIMCO, BR, Schroders, Aberdeen , Permal, Pictet and plenty of other AM companies have offices in LND. Plus you can apply for asset mgmt positions within banks.
What is Schroder's like? Culture, reputation?

Given that the majority of the conversations on this forum are about the US, I was thinking of starting a topic specific for UK, London based asset management firms.
I am not only interested in the big names, but also in small UK based asset managers that have a star analyst or PM, which you can learn a lot from.
Can you, dear reader, post the name of an asset manager that crosses your mind, with a few words about it? I'll start.
Types of funds interested: value funds, special situations funds My profile: msc in finance, CFA level 1 and an internship in equity research
Fidelity: Peter Lynch, awesome programme, one of the biggest asset managers out there, given their size they are likely to offer more graduate roles than other organizations
Looking forward to hearing your ideas.
Nice post, let's try to keep it active.
M&G Investments: mostly fixed income shop based in the City.. extremely strong in corporate bonds (google Richard Woolnough...) and in illiquid credit and private debt in general (http://www.wallstreetoasis.com/files/2014_pdi_30_-_private_debt_investo… ranking and profile). In equities there is the infamous Recovery Fund run by Tom Dobell, which is struggling in the last years after decades of massive overperformance. Hires 6-8 grads a year through their graduate scheme.
