Tough dilemma for a Senior
Morning Guys,
I am currently facing a dilemma, and would like the WSO's inputs as to what I should do. I am currently a senior at a state school in the southeast with one semester left. My school is a target school for STRH. I can either graduate in the upcoming fall or next spring. My goal is to land an investment banking's interview, and if possible, a job. I am currently at a boutique valuation firm for the summer, and as of yesterday, my employer offered me the chance to continue my internship to the end of the November. My question is should I graduate in the Fall and try to get an full-time interview or should I graduate in the Spring and possible strive for an IB internship at STRH, which could lead to an IB full-time offer. Which route would you take, and why? I have attached a copy of my resume below for you to determine my chance of success. Thank you, and have a great day!
Sincerely,
Candidate X
I thought STRH only does summer internships?
I am sorry for not being clear. I would graduate in the Spring and hopefully land an internship in the summer at STRH.
Also, Georgia Tech is not a state school like GCSU or ASU, it's a research university.
also get rid of the 1 line on page 2 that is bothering me
I'm not sure STRH accepts summer interns post-graduation. Is this what they're telling you? I don't know of any fellow Tech grads that did such a route.
No, I did not know about that. Another reason as to why I think graduating in the Spring is beneficial is that full time interview for BB/MM is occurs during early fall. This gives me more opportunities to explore.
Yeah internship post-graduation is probably not a viable option.
I would pursue graduation in the fall and continue your internship so you have a shot at the valuation firm. Definitely apply for FT at STRH, they accept full-time people in January as well (disclosure: the only guy I knew who started in January, interned with them the prior summer).
STRH has full day interviews on a Friday during the fall, so I do not know how you're going to tell your current firm why you'll be out of the office that day.
PM me if you need anything else.
In your shoes with those stats, I'd be hitting recruiting hard and looking to land a full time offer before I graduate rather than extending my time in school (losing time & money) to have a shot at an internship which would just give you a shot at maybe landing an offer.
You have an excellent GPA based on the comments above its from Georgia Tech which is an excellent school. Down the line you would be very competitive for a target school MBA provided your gmat scores were also top notch. You've got a bright future ahead of you.
I really appreciate all your help. Thank you!

Recruit for FT in the Fall, graduate in December, and use your free Spring before starting ft to travel/etc. This is quite common and won't prohibit you from ft recruitment at all. Really no need to consider an internship unless you're unsuccessful getting a ft offer.
I agree with the comments telling you to pursue FT in the fall, although you should get on the networking train ASAP. Without the internship that's the best way to help ensure you get what you want and it's a far more economical method than spending an extra semester.
