Training Programs
What do you think of firms that have formal one year training programs as opposed to firms that have rigorous training for a month or so and then let you trade a small account. It seems like the latter is more conducive to learning, at least for me, since you get to learn by doing, learn from mistakes, etc. Let me know what you think.
I'm a first year trader and my firm has a rigorous 6 months of varied training and I think it's the best way to go. I have friends that got thrown onto a desk and given small accounts, and yeah, they may be a little bit ahead of me on that specific product, but they're one trick ponies now. I have spent considerable time on many desks and know how the different product groups interact because of it. Also, I even know some things about foreign asset classes that senior guys on the desk may not fully understand because I learned synthetic clo structuring or par asset swaps and now I'm on a credit trading desk. In short, it's a few month set back now for being much more productive in the future. Plus, who knows if my desk is going to be around in a couple months and i'll have to move.
cool that sounds really complicated, but can you make money? Buy lo sell hi, sell high buy lo REPEAT!
lol i cant imagine what you're like in person
