Transfer from UMass to Vanderbilt? F100 Internship soph summer?

WSO community,

I'm a current sophomore within the business school at UMass Amherst. I have recently completed a winter internship as a private equity analyst for a small shop in Boston called SFA. Furthermore, I have founded the investment banking workshop at my school, and have worked as a summer analyst at State Street during my freshman summer.

I have my eyes set on NYC IBD (GS, MS, JPM). I have an offer this summer for a F100 corporate finance internship in Boston (Liberty Mutual Insurance). I have also been accepted as a transfer student this fall at Vanderbilt University.

My question to everyone is should I accept this F100 offer? Will it hinder my chances at junior year recruitment if I don't work at a boutique or MM as a SA? Should I try and cold-email every possible boutique in Manhattan? Is Vanderbilt worth the 100k debt I will have to take on? Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. Just a kid with a dream trying to position himself correctly.

Best,
Owen

You're going to get a lot of "don't go in debt, just network" replies. I would strongly suggest to do the opposite. Recruiting from a non-target is very tough, and considering the shape of our current market, it will only get tougher. Transfer to Vanderbilt and take on the $100k in debt.

Perhaps I am reading this incorrectly, but what does the F100 internship have to do with this? If you are just concerned that it is not IB, I would not worry about it. My suggestion would be to cold email some boutiques and see what comes out of that. A corporate finance internship, though, is more than fine for sophomore year. As soon as you accept your Vanderbilt offer and get your Vanderbilt email, use it to start networking with alumni ASAP. That will give you a leg up come junior SA recruiting.
