Travel reimbursement for interview?
I'm a junior and have been interviewing for summer internship positions. After 2 phone interviews I got invited to a final round, but the email didn't specifically mention that they'll be paying for my travel.
Am I expected to spend hundreds of dollars out of my own pocket to travel during the holidays, or should they have some kind of reimbursement program? This is for a fairly large hedge fund in NYC, not a bank. They just sent me an email asking for my availability - I feel kind of awkward bringing up the question of reimbursements for travel, but should this be standard? It's my first time doing a superday-type of thing that I have to fly to so I'm not too sure of what I should do. Is it OK to ask the recruiter about it?

Call HR (your recruiter as a second resort), explain your situation, and ask them your questions. Do a great job in the interview!
If they asked for your availability, just tell them what it is and you don't have to say anything else. It's implied that they will cover the cost if they know that you're from out of town.
Seriously just go with it and then find out after you get the offer / rejection if they can cover travel costs. The fact is, it's a few hundred USD that you're spending to go to an interview, for a job that has the potential to reward you with 6, 7 figures. If you're in the position that you / family / etc literally cannot afford it without it affecting your quality of life, then you should probably ask before you travel...

Definitely don't bring up travel. It will most likely be provided, they'll give you more info after you give them your availability. And in the small chance it's not, it's worth it to pay out of pocket.

this is probably a very unimportant (and stupid) question, but: I am having 2 or 3 interviews next week (in 2 days) for an internship and all the banks offered me to reimburse my flight costs (250$). How do you usually or would you handle that? just fill out the reimbursement form from 1 bank and let them pay even though you are interviewing with more in the same time? Or split it?
I know that this does not really matter but I don't want to make the impression for not being "honest" if I let only 1 of them pay.
Just have one pay.

I had a super day with a bulge bracket bank in new York in February. I didnt end up getting an offer. They paid for my airfare but they also gave me a form to fill out if I wanted them to reimburse for meals and other transportation. That day, I paid for a taxi and a few meals. I haven't submitted my receipts or the form yet. Would it look bad if I sent in the reimbursement stuff now since its more than a month later? There was no deadline on the forms.
Who cares? You didn't get the offer.
Send it in, and sue if you don't get it.

Will booking a very expensive flight (as in over $1000) from your SA company's travel agency affect your chances at getting a FT offer, or is there really no interaction between the agency and people who make the decisions?
If the expensive flight is justifiable, then you will be fine (i.e. it's a last minute booking, which is why flights are that expensive). If it's only that expensive because you're booking first/business class, then you could have a problem. fyi, I once booked a last minute flight for $1500, although it was through the company's travel agency.
last minute booking, coach. basically getting the cheapest ticket available but still quite expensive ($1300 or so)
A grand isn't a lot for a bank to spend on a flight, they won't think twice about it, especially considering it is sunk cost. It costs significantly more than that for them to recruit a new analyst - if you're good, they're going to take you.
