Do summer analysts ever travel?
I was reading this article on the GS website and was surprised to see the author traveled during his summer analyst internship (http://www.goldmansachs.com/careers/blog/posts/ca…). Is traveling common for summer analysts??
Definitely not common. Travelling is not even common for a first year analyst.
However if you perform very well, and if the opportunity arises, you might get to travel (this was my case, both as summer analyst and first year analyst).
During a summer internship; if you are very good the team will want you to stay and will try to convince you to come back in this bank/team vs. going to competitors. If you are at this stage then it is possible that you get to travel, as the team will want to sell itself.
However I would definitely not expect to travel when starting - it happens, but it is not common.
Please note that this is valid for large BB banks - in smaller shops (i.e. MM) it might be more common given leaner teams and smaller transactions.
Good first year analysts don’t even travel
I did not, and it's not common, but I know a few that did.
Yea, I heard they make round trips from their chair to the bathroom every so often.
Happens at my bank for interns. Just for deals though. Also just the execution-focused groups. Don't think coverage analysts get to travel.
I have a friend at another bank in NYC at one of the Japanese banks. He gets to travel as a first year to pitches, so there's that.

For the MBB consulting firms, are you expected to travel around the country and even the world as an intern, like full-time consultants do? I would imagine that MBB would pay for your airfare, but what about smaller firms?
.
As a summer, you're treated just like a normal member of the team. You're travel with them with no out-of-pocket expense.

Travelling for internship training while taking classes. Have anyone experience that before. I'm in Dallas and the bank is Societe Generale.
