Turning down an interview?

I got offered an interview for a position that I now have no interest in, I got offered another internship at a different firm that I would prefer.

Would it be appropriate for me to contact the firm and turn down the offer or would it be better just to go to the interview anyway?

Thanks.

Just politely turn down the interview. If you already have an offer from your top choice, it is a waste of your time and their time.

One of my friends from school actually got a last minute spot for a superday I withdrew from the day before and he got the offer... obviously there's a handful of spots that free up last minute, but it's funny how things work sometimes. Just send an email to your hr contact politely declining and you may even be in the city with a buddy this summer because of it.

Try to hook one of your friends up, but make sure they actually deserve it..not everyone who doesn't have an offer actually deserves one. Otherwise, it's ok to cancel the interview.

"Greed, in all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love, for knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind. And greed, you mark my words, will not only save Teldar Paper, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA."

Maybe turning the interview down like everyone says is all that good of an idea, you could use it as a networking opportunity. Maybe try to hook up someone you know, you'll earn some good karma which is the currency for favors later on.

Hooking someone up is a good way do it. Forward the resume on with some extremely kind words.

If it works out for your friend, you will feel great... happened to me once and it felt good to know I was able to help someone.

Wall Street leaders now understand that they made a mistake, one born of their innocent and trusting nature. They trusted ordinary Americans to behave more responsibly than they themselves ever would, and these ordinary Americans betrayed their trust.

If you cancel the interview then you may be stuck with the bill for the plan ticket. If I have to pay for anything then I will attend the interview (but make it clear that I have already been given an offer and plan on accepting so I don't take anyones spot), but if not then I will just cancel the interview.
