Multiple superdays and first rounds on the same day?
It looks like I have 1 superday for sure, and another one that is still a maybe on Friday. I also have 2 first round interviews on this day. Does anyone have any advice for me with regards to this?
Do you think it would hurt my chances if I called the recruiters for the first round and tried to stop by their office for the interview or reschedule it? The problem is that the bank I would have to miss the first round with is my #1 choice, so I don't want to hurt my chances.
At the same time, I don't have any offers in hand so I want to make sure that I get something. And if I have to choose between superdays - do I want to go with the one where I'm probably more likely to get the job or where I'd rather work?
wow i wish i had your problem
I thought all the banks were done recruiting already. What start date are you interviewing for? And I would interview at your first choice. You can be more sincere in your answer when they ask you "why do you want to work here?"
Penn, harvard, stanford just started recruiting
I had two superdays on the same day for the full-time recruiting cycle. I just told the guys who got to me second that I had already committed for the morning, so they interviewed me in the afternoon. It shouldn't really be a big deal for you either.
These are just summer positions (regional office). Pretty much every company is interviewing this week at my school, although Credit Suisse already finished their whole process to get a jump start on everyone else.
Thanks for the advice, I guess I will just try to talk to them. The only reason I ask is because at my first superday it lasted from 9am-4pm, so if these are the same then that would obviously be a problem if I wanted to attend 2 in one day.
I know the feeling. I have been to two superdays myself. I agree with Bankerbot2007. If they call you and you have something else scheduled for that day. Tell them you have a prior appointment but you are definitely interested in meeting with them. From my experience, they shift the time to your convenience but it will still be on the same day. Moving the interview time will not hurt your chances. If you don't show up at all or are really demanding about the whole process, that might. Hope this helps.
Thanks, I just got the call from the second bank, so it does look like I have 2 scheduled for the same day. Luckily for my 2nd choice of the 2 called and left me a message last night that I have yet to return. So I guess I can just call them back and tell them that I had made the appointment before they called me, and see if they can reschedule.
I know the feeling. I also had pre-interview dinners and events the night before superday, so its not like theyre gonna move those, so I had to make a choice. They know what other banks on the street are doing, so by not showing up to sometihng like that, they know where you stand with regards to who you want to work for.
It is kind of BS in my opinion that they would schedule them on the same days. Maybe it is my career center's fault since we aren't a real target school. For those of you at the big targets do you have these kind of scheduling problems?
Penn has 12 banks and a few PE per day. during the crunch
Just talked to the people I'm putting off. The associate in charge of recruiting said it was "not a problem" and "not to worry about it" and that they were going to set something up on thursday or monday. I guess we'll see how that plays out.
Multiple Super Days on One Day (Originally Posted: 01/16/2015)
I have a phone screen this week with firm A. If I do well on the phone screen I will get invited to Firm A’s super day next week in New York.
However I have an on campus interview next week with Firm B. If I do well in the on campus interview for Firm B I will be invited to Firm B’s on campus Super Day which is the SAME DAY as Firm A’s Super Day that is in New York. My campus is a 1.5 hour plane ride from NY.
I’m assuming I have to ask Firm A, if I get invited to super day, to move me to another super day? Firm B only has one Super Day I believe since it’s a special OCR Super Day, but I wouldn’t find out if I am invited to Firm B’s OCR superday until the night before! Ughhh help!!! How can I handle this, and at what point should I address this? Equally interested in both positions and want to attend both super days.
You should address this when you have gotten both superdays...
One step at a time. First, you need to get a superday (which I hope you do at either firm -- can't start thinking about this until then). In the best case scenario, you get invited out to both Firm A and Firm B. Then, you'll have to decide which group/bank/position looks the most interesting for you and go with it. Can't have it all, and even though you'll only know until the night before -- you'll have to make a tough decision and email the recruiter asap to let them know you won't be moving forward with their superday. And hopefully, you crush the superday at the other firm.
First off, get the superday, then worry about rescheduling it. HR is usually very open to accommodating your schedule, just be honest and do NOT lie to them. Hopefully you get both superdays, in which you will simply see what time slots they assign you. If they conflict, email the firm you desire to work at less and ask them to accommodate you.
Some banks have multiple superdays and can move you to another one. Believe it our not, applicants are a commodity and banks do not care that you are interviewing elsewhere too. Just be honest.
It is never seen as a negative that you are interviewing elsewhere - on the contrary, it makes you a more attractive candidate. Therefore, they will move you to another superday or accommodate another way. Don't worry about it.

Anyone ever been in this situation. What is the protocol for dealing with two interviews with different companies on the same day. Equally interested in both positions. How would you decide? Thx in advance.
Just got into that situation. I just scheduled both companies during the same day with some buffer time in between. It will be exhausting, but it's better than giving up on an opportunity, imo.
How did you handle the travel arrangement? Did you just have one company pay for it all?
tell HR and they'll move your superday to a different date since most places have more than 1 anyway

If one superday is in the morning and the other in the afternoon it should work out well. Saves you traveling time!

Hey all. Even though I haven't gotten specific info about the RBC IB superday next Friday, JP Morgan wants me to confirm what time I'll be attending their IB Risk superday by Thursday which also happens to be next Friday. It's going to be a first round interview and will only be for an hour. What should I do? How long do normal superdays last? I don't think I'll have enough time to attend both.
I've done two in a day before. If the JPM IB Risk one is only an hour you can easily make it.
I guess I'll try to schedule my JPM interview as early as I possibly can in the morning. If anything comes up, I'll just reach out to the recruiters to make arrangements.

I have 2 superdays both on the same day. I asked both to move and both said no. What can I do? :(
Tell the place you like less that you won't be able to make it. if they really want you, they'll make other arrangements for you to come in. talk to a senior person instead of HR if possible.
If I remember correctly, you applied to Asia? Banks probably can not move your superday because they have senior people fly over from Asia for a day specifically to interview candidates. It's not like NY where there are multiple superdays for a few weeks running.
I was wondering, in general, how often does this happen? If they are for NY positions is HR generally receptvei to moving superdays? Has it ever happened where both an IBD and s&T division at the same bank have the same superday?
I was originally schedule for a Superday in NYC since the recruiter got confused about where I was. Once I told her I was in London, she moved me to a superday in London.. So if you want to go that route, perhaps tell your recrutier you would be in London for a while or something and then they might be able to switch you.. and of course you would have to pay for your own travel.

2 superdays on same day - what do I do? (Originally Posted: 02/05/2014)
I originally set up a superday with a BB firm that you'd all know if I said the name (LA). I just booked everything today and just found out that I got a superday at an MM firm that is "top 5" in its class among their offerings. Both are in banking and now I'm struggling what to do. Do I call and try to cancel the first firm that booked me and try to reschedule since it's the first one I booked with?
Thanks!
just tell them HR handles the scheduling, but the bankers make the hire the people in charge won't even actually find out
What do you suggest I do?
reschedule the 2nd. much safer bet than cancelling on the first.
if you could have gotten the first to reschedule, thats ideal. but if you have already confirmed your attendance for the 1st, that could piss them off...
2 Superdays in Different Cities on the Same Day???? (Originally Posted: 02/08/2009)
I have been invited to two BB IB summer analyst superdays. Unfortunatley, the superdays are on the same day. Bank A is located in NY, and Bank B is located in Chicago. When speaking with Bank A about the situation, their HR showed me travel plans that would allow me to interview at Bank A early in the morning and then fly out of NY to Chicago in time to be at Bank B's office by mid afternoon.
I was wondering if you would make these travel arrangements and try to attend both superdays on the same day, if the timing would theoretically work??
My big concern is that because of potential flight delays (especially flying from LGA to Ohare) I might miss the Chicago supderay.
Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks.
Wow, that sucks... Have you spoken to Bank B to see if they have any other options (or possibly an office in NY that you can interview at?).
Even if it was possible to interview in an NY office, I think that would really destroy my chances at bank B. All of the other canidates would get to speak with the Chicago staff who are making the decisions and I would have to interview with NY bankers.
And this is the only superday for both banks.
Just do it... It's not particularly enjoyable, but when you get the question, "where else are you interviewing?," you'll have a pretty good story that will make people remember you and impress them. Especially at bank B when your interviewers realize that not only have you gone through another Superday, but it was in a different city in a different time zone.
Yikes, hopefully there isn't a snow storm in Chicago that delays you. Which firm do you want more? I'd assume the NYC bank would be a better bet...
agree with jim, sell it in your story to make yourself remembered, given that things go as planned. good luck
can you do a phone interview with one of the banks so you make both?
I might be able to do a phone interview, but i think just doing a phone interview would eliminate me. First, it is more difficult to make a good impression and read the interviewer over the phone, and second the bank would probably wonder why I made them phone interview me over the other bank.
Anyone have experience flying from laguardia to o'hare though? I was just wondering how common delays are between those two busy airports.
9am in NY and 2pm in Chicago. It depends also on how long your superdays are. I've had superdays that consisted of just 2 back-to-back 30 minute interviews and others that were 3 1/2 hours. LGA to ORD (and vice versa) does have delays but the good news is flights are so frequent between them that you can easily hop on an earlier flight if your first interview ends sooner than expected, or get on one an hour later should your first interview run over. In any case, I would highly advise against doing a phone interview. Good luck!
interesting that you did the same thing dcheva. did you think all of the stress of traveling during the day affected your interviews?
I assume since you are "big10" your pretty close to Chicago. Have you considered trying to interview Thursday in Chicago and then fly out to NYC or vice versa?
