UNC vs Duke vs Michigan
Really happy! I got into all three business schools and trying to decide. I got a 50k fellowship from UNC's Kenan-Flagler school. UNC and Mich are top notch schools but Duke is simply an elite school. Between UNC and Mich I am leaning towards UNC. Its next to Duke, so they will get the same firms recruiting at both institutions. Great weather, cute girls and most importantly it's not next to Detroit! I was initially leaning towards Michigan but having seen so many low quality graduates from Ann Arbor ( I think their admissions rate is super high), I am leaning towards Duke and UNC again. What do you guys think?
What do you want to do and what area of the country do you want to live in? That will be a big factor in which school to go to. Honestly, choosing a b-school for the weather and girls is very short-sighted, unless you're b-school as a vacation and not to actually get anything out of it. Also, just because 2 schools are next to each other geographically doesn't mean they share recruiters. For instance, there are a good number of Fuqua people going to NYC banks every summer, but barely a handful of K-F people.
Yea, obviously Duke is the better school, no matter how good UNC is. But is it worth turning down a near full ride? An education is what you make out of it. If you are a retard and you end up getting an MBA at Duke, it doesn't matter how great Duke is your still a retard. UNC candidates are by no means disadvantaged, what ever advantages Duke candidates have, they are so little to actually quantify. Again I highly doubt any firm that recruits at Duke would also not recruit at UNC; it just makes no sense their both top schools.

Sorry I meant overall rankings. I value the overall rankings more than purely the business rankings, I should have mentioned that earlier. I remember reading last year a statistic that Michigan's admission rate from prior years. Apparently in 2010 Michigan had 50% admissions rate. That's not a joke or typo, 50%. Yes, half the applicants were admitted. Which explains why I see so many weak graduates from the school. Michigan is one of those schools that trys to act private but then facts like such as the one I mentioned earlier remind you its a public university. Not a very selective school by any measure.
Had friends who went to UNC and Duke. Don't have a lot of experience with Ross. The same companies that recruit at Fuqua also recruit at Kenan-Flagler. Kenan-Flagler has a huge IB presence in NYC and Charlotte, as does Fuqua.
It's hard to give advice without knowing your background and what you're trying to do. If your goal is MBB for example, Fuqua is worth it for the extra money.
my 2 cents is that UNC and U-M are too good to be filtered as "NOT elite school". You'll certainly have a larger crowd for classes, social acts and job aplications for OCR, but it doesn't mean much worse--it's more about fitting what you want with the schools like Frank Slaughtery has said
Honestly... Michigan is gonna be amazing to watch next year football wise. All 3 schools will get the job done..... That being said Michigan has one of the best alumni crowd in the world. If you are going to be in the south, just take Duke for the ego trip
