First Advantage Background Check

Have anyone experienced First Advantage or know how they operate?

Do they look at your resume or things you entered online at HR WorkWays?

Thanks

Private Investigator Employer Background Check

You will almost always face a background check when starting an internship or new job. These will likely uncover any lies that you may have had on your resume or the information that you provided. Our users shared their experiences below.

MikeJuno - Investment Banking Analyst:
I've been screened by them before. The only thing they asked for from my end was for employment verification letters for the places I interned at.

tracy20:
I’ve filled out the extremely long form online and now waiting for the results of the background check. But the PI has emailed me twice, once asking for my last date at my current employer and also asking me for my most recent CV. I’ve been informed its going to be a long process at least 4 weeks.

What Information Can First Advantage Find?

Our users shared information about what firms like First Advantage can uncover in their checks. For example, a GPA and transcript can only be obtained if you sign a waiver for the firm allowing the PI to look at your transcript. Most major banks will have you sign this waiver.

LuckySS:
It is illegal for a university to give out any information beyond current/former status (i.e. did the person in question attend, what years, and degree status). Anything else such as current address, GPA, classes, financial aid status, ect. requires written consent by the student, there is a federal release of information form you would have to fill out before they give out any other information.

However, many banks will make you sign a waiver for the school - waiving this right. Be sure to monitor what you are signing if you worrying about something coming to light.

Employment Gap on Resume Background Check

Another poster, poised a question about lies regarding your employment history.

GS offered me a junior job in asia and I am currently under background check by HRworkways.

For all info I submitted, everything can be checked out expect one: some part of my previous work experience, I have some in & out regarding my starting/end date. (eg: I started in March, but I put Jan).

Is that gonna be a serious fraud/problem which can make me failed the background check??

I'd say at a majority of shops, this probably wouldn't be an issue, but GS is pretty strict w/ background checks / vetting.

I would just let it be, as if it is an issue the HR person in charge checking you out will likely contact you for clarification.

did you lie on your resume? i suspect you did. Other wise you wouldn't know the name of the P.I. chances are your fucked because they go through a pretty detailed background check at least down to SAT's

When you are offered a job in investment bank, you will be given the official offer letter and a sheet of paper to authorize First Advantage (or any other PI) to do a background check for you. That's how I know the name of the PI.

Mike, do you have to fill in HR WorkWays first before they start their investigation?

Thanks again

In the same place with OP. Just got the offer package. The bank merely asked me to sign 2 information use/release forms and mail them back with the offer and said that they'll send me an url for online background check upon receipt of those things. Haven't seen HR WorkWays.

Can anybody who have completed BC with First Advantage give any feedback in terms of timing? I've just filled the online pre-employment screening and waiting...Its for an immediate start so how much do you think it will take guys?? Thank you very much to all

First Adv., I don't believe, pulls your school records. Fairly certain HR has to do that. That was my case though (BB banking).

They have this waver for all full access they make everybody sign, but either way that's good to know.

Cheers.

Google is your friend.

Thanks, LuckySS. Unfortunately I have already signed the disclosure agreement. I tried google and can not find exact details of the education verification from first advantage.

caonilaomu, I'm interested to hear what ended up happening with your background check. I signed the same documents and disclosures (which do allow for transcripts to be provided to a third party) and am wondering if the third party checks graduate grades, undergrad grades, neither, or both. I never put my undergrad grades on my resume, but they are poor and I'm hoping they stay relatively unknown. The position is for an experienced hire at MBB.

Hey, does anyone know how long First Advantage typically takes to run a screen? Seems like they've just started the process with me even though I submitted my info 3 1/2 weeks ago. Anyone have an idea of how much longer it'll take?
