Unlimited Data Plans and Data Usage / Month

I may be the only one at this point but I still have my old school Verizon unlimited data plan for $30 / Month. According to Verizon I am in the

1. What is the most data you have used in the month? What is your monthly average? I average ~70gb / Month and I hit ~95gb one month this spring.

2. Does anyone have T-Mobile? If so, what are your thoughts on service, quality, etc. They are the only ones that still have unlimited and that is my likely step if I chose to switch.

I just want to know what in the eff you do on your phone that you can use that much data in a month!?

Back when I still had my unlimited data through Verizon I think I still only used like 15gb/month and I never connected to wifi unless an app or update required it. Although I feel that my wife could go through data like crazy due to things like Instagram and looking at pictures and videos and stuff all day. We go through a combined 17 a month and that's connecting to wifi almost all the time.

One thing that matters for what service provider you use is where you live. Places like NYC and Chicago, etc. are better to go with Verizon because the network they use is able to penetrate through buildings better.

I have an unlimited data plan. I use like 60GB/month. I would just pay what ever it costs to keep it, but that's because I hate those stupid notifications you get when you are approaching your limit.

maybe spend less time on your phone broseph. 70 gigs is insane, have you ever thought of closing out of apps or interacting with people in person?

@DabbzMan might as well set up his office inside an MRI tube

Hahaha haha. I have HBO, Starz, Showtime, Netflix, FX, TNT, EPIX, and FIOS on my phone and generally have movies going in the background when I'm in the office late so that is most of my data usage. I have probably ~5-10gb in Spotify as I keep it online 24/7

I'm on Tmobile, and have been a happy customer since 2005. The current unlimited everything plan is 50 a month, BUT it's not unlimited 4GLTE (it used to be and I have that, its changed). You get slowed down once you pass the GB threshold. But its unlimited data and calls, texting, etc. I also believe that certain streaming services don't count against your allotment (Spotify, Pandora, etc). I'd double check those.

I also have 10GBs of tethering, which is great. Obviously there are ways to jailbreak around that limit, but some people don't have the know how. I do, but don't need to.

If your new $50 plan for Verizon also includes all your other needs (calls, texts etc), there probably isn't a real reason to switch. Tmobile will be similar, you just add the tethering.

Does Verizon slow you down from 4GLTE at a certain point?

Are you in NYC? I'm just concerned about reception and the slowdown.

I don't think that there is a better deal out there for your scenario. The extra $20/mo is significantly less than you'd have to pay to switch to a limited plan that was even half of your current usage. Also, Verizon has said that they won't throttle your speed (which everyone else is going to do on their unlimited plan). Keeping the service quality of Verizon with that much data usage ought to be worth a lot more than the minor cost increase

Totally valid which is my big pro in not switching

Have you ever tried connecting to wifi just to see how much data you would use? Back when I had unlimited data I would always use a ton of data, but now that I don't, I connect to wifi and barely use 4-5 gb anymore.

Bro. Don't switch and you better hold on to that plan for dear life. Verizon charges something insane like ~$750 a month for 100gb shared on 2 lines. I have 15gb with Verizon and get close to the limit most months. Used to have t-mobile for 7 years. It's crap. You will be pissed at yourself if you switch. You and a friend of mine are the only two I've heard of that still have that plan. Don't let them trick you into changing your plan by upgrading your phone either.

Ya I have to outright buy phones and then transfer my number. So phone upgrades are ~$800 a pop

$800? I just bought the new flagship Google phone (Nexus 6P) from their online store for $500 unlocked. Works on any carrier, including Verizon. The Nexus 5X is even cheaper and starts at $379 unlocked. Don't buy phones through Verizon.

OP, why the hell would you want to leave a 30$ a month unlimited plan? Verizon is probably the best provider, network wise, and 30$ a month is dirt cheap

$30 for data + ~$40 for talk and text. So with the price jump I'm up to $90 and if T-Mobile has comparable service then it makes sense and save money. But it appears people are mixed on the service quality. Which is content with everything I've read
