UVA Econ or WM Finance?
Hey guys, I am currently about to be a freshman at W&M. At first, I believed that I would do something dental/medicine related and liked the small classes at WM and chose it over UVA.
However, I am starting to become interested in banking and was wondering if the UVA Econ degree would be more prestigious than the WM Finance one. I am not confident I will be able to get accepted to UVA's McIntire program as it seems pretty competitive.
Is there a significant disadvantage of having an Economics degrees compared to Commerce? Thanks!
I've seen a fair amount of W&M alumni in the industry. While certainly not as many as UM, UVA, UNC, etc. due to enrollment, the stronger W&M students get placed each year. I'd say not to transfer, although there are many other factors to consider given they are vastly different schools.
just apply to mcintire
UVA is more of a target school so you'd get access to a better recruiting pipeline. I'd probably take UVA econ over W&M, but, as Frank just said, just apply to McIntire.
The "just apply to McIntire" advice is great, but achieving a 3.7+ seems ridiculously hard to me. I will attempt to get in but these students are typically brighter than me. Which is why I want to assume that I will just graduate with an Econ degree.
if you want it bad enough, you'll figure out how to make it happen
