Valuations Analyst SRR Offer vs. Operations at Capital Group
Hey everyone,
I recently accepted my offer at a boutique valuations firm. I turned down an offer with a large investment management firm in their back office because I did not feel like there were many exit opps from the back office. Did I make the right choice? How do boutique valuations firms rank against other valuation firms and the Big 4? How difficult will it be to go to a hedge fund, PE, or VC from a boutique valuations firm?
I think you made the right choice. SRR has a good reputation and their valuation side does a lot of M&A and fair valuation stuff...you could move to IBD, TAS, or PE afterwards. SRR has an IB division, so you should be fine.
I interned at a valuation service firm. When it opened 2~3 spots for experienced hires, several back office guys from Goldman came in for an interview, all with the same reason of getting more finance-related experience. None of them actually got an offer because they weren't as technically strong as other guys from big 4. Based on how in-depth these valuation services can be, I'm pretty sure you made the right move.
SRR doesn't really have name recognition outside of the midwest (Chicago), I think they are expanding though.
Thanks for your feedback!
