Vanderbilt, Brown, Stern or Wharton for Consulting
For your undergraduate, is Vanderbilt, Brown, Stern, McDonough or Wharton better if you wish to go into consulting in a northeastern location, preferably in New York.
I know that Wharton probably has the best placement of any of these schools, but Wharton students are probably more qualified for such jobs anyway. So I'm also wondering if going to schools like Wharton (or McDonough) make it more difficult to get jobs in consulting, since your peers are more competitive.
I'd choose Wharton. If it competitive then that's a good thing as you'll end up working harder. You'll learn how to be above the competition. (I know someone who ended up in McKinsey)
I don't really like Brown in this aspect. Nothing extraordinary about their placements. (Some people ended up in MBBs while a good chunk of people ended up in really shitty companies)
Okay, but do you have any opinions about which is the best out of the other four? I'm a Vanderbilt freshman considering transferring and while I think/hope I have a good shot at Brown, Stern and McDonough, Wharton may be a bit of a reach. (My college GPA is just at a 3.5, though I have a perfect SAT score and pretty good extra curriculars.)
Wharton sounds like a good fit for your situation.
Vanderbilt placement at MBB triumphs Stern and Mcdonough by a fair share. Brown is probably the only one that would give you a better shot at MBB. Wharton is obviously the best out of the schools you mentioned. Its important for you to realize that a better shot at MBB recruiting isn't the only reason for your transfer. Vanderbilt is atleast a semi-target for MBB and should give you a good shot at MBB if you keep a high GPA and are very involved in extracurricular actitivites on campus.
Does this apply to Northeastern locations? I know many of the people in Vandy end up working in the South
Thats more a function of the location of the school and alumni presence over people's choice to end up in the NE at an MBB. Bain & Mck don't do OCR at Stern and BCG & Mck don't do OCR at Mcdonough from what I know. Take all this with a grain of salt as some of the info could be outdated.
