VC gone awry

Hey guys,

I feel that my career was skyrocketting until I wanted to go to the VC.

I had exceptional academics and went to target schools. Got into (one of) top of the top investment banks. Very quickly I made a mistake of my life. Some guys were going to join Samvver's start ups and I was told the story of building up the company, responsibility and so on. I got caught in and went to a far land to do e-commerce. Got an immediate title promotion and better pay, while working a fraction of the hours.

Early on I realised that this is not what I wanted for myself. I don't gain any sort of experience relevant to finance. At best I get some exposure to manage several uneducated casual workers. The rest of the experience is relevant to the local market and online retail, which I won't ever need in my life hopefully.

It's been more than a year that I'm trying to get out of it. Market is tough and I feel I could get only to a 3rd tier financial institution. I am hesitant to recognise the career loss and this situation just keeps dragging on. Not to mention the logistical problems in arranging an interview overseas. The pay is flat, no upside, and can only go down.

I started to think about an MBA, but that would be my last option. I haven't been in banking long enough to be a banker nor have I been committed to VC as I wanted to get out of it from the beginning.

Anyone has useful suggestions?
