Boutique IB vs VC Summer Associate

Hi Guys,

Was hoping to get some feedback on a little dilemma. End goal is IB, non BB, ideally top MM firm. I have two opportunities in front of me, a summer associate role at a small boutique firm that only does 5-8 deals a year and the other is with a fairly new VC firm being run by a couple ex-MD's from a top VC. I know the IB is not likely to offer FT at the end of the program as they historically have not. Would the name of the VC have any weight in FT recruiting next Fall for IB? I think my personality is a better fit with the VC but I do not want to handcuff myself for next year. Your help is appreciated.

Look at the former jobs of ppl at both firms. A lot of VC guys were involved in IB and have a lot of contacts. If you're a sophomore I'd take the IB because it'd be easier to break into IB later on.

  1. Depends.
  2. VC.
